Show COMENTARIO 2 + May 10-16, 2007 — El Sol No basemos nuestros juicios solo en nuestra percepcién ecientemente un amigo me ates que estando en una R -reunion de un conocido grupo anti-inmigrante de la ciudad, escuché mi nombre ser Ilamado en reiteradas ocasiones, com- parandome como la espina molesta de un rosal. Esto no me asombré y atin mas, les agradezco por la publicidad gratis que me brindan sin habérselos pedido, sin embargo debo confesar que si me molesté que aquellos quienes jamds han conversado conmigo para saber cémo pienso y no conocen mi rostro ni han escuchado mis sentimientos digan que conocen mis ideas y los propésitos que dirigen mis acciones atin mejor que yo misma. Estas personas han utilizado mi nombre para crear a un ser completamente distinto a mi y si no fuera porque sé lo que siento, sé como soy y ad6nde quiero llegar, Rosa Maria Martinez En Mi Opinién EL Sie diria que podria haberme sentido confundida acerca de mi propia identidad. Esta situacion me ha Ilevado a meditar acerca de las tantas veces que escuchamos rumores acerca de alguien a quien ni siquiera conocemos y damos por cierto que esas especulaciones son verdaderas y entonces juzgamos de manera apresurada. Siempre tengo presente un cuento que escuché aiios atras y que ilustra a que la manera en como reaccionamos hacia otras personas muchas veces se basa en nuestra percepcion y no en una realidad. El cuento dice que una persona conducia un automédvil por un camino de tierra en una noche de luna cuando el vehiculo se detuvo a causa de un desperfecto. El conductor entonces se bajé del mismo y decidi6 ir a buscar ayuda a la tinica casa que vio a la distancia. Comenz6 a caminar hacia la vivienda ensimismado en sus pensamientos e imaginando cémo lo recibiria la persona que vivia allf considerando que era tarde en la noche y que posiblemente estaria durmiendo. Al principio pens6 que esta per- sona abriria la puerta de su vivienda cordialmente para ofrecerle su ayuda. Sin embargo unos segundos mas tarde se dijo a si mismo, “zy si me pone mala cara porque es tarde asombrada y somnolienta la abrid, y lo estoy molestando?”. El conductor continud caminando hacia la casa que ya estaba mas cercana. A cada paso que daba una nueva pregunta surgia en su mente. “;Y si no s6lo me pone mala cara sino que también me grita y me pide que me retire?. ,Y si me llega a sacar a empujones de su vivienda?. En sus pensamientos la per- el conductor le dijo enojado y a gritos: “; Asi es que no quieres ayudarme? jEres un desalmado y un egoista que sdlo piensas en ti mismo y no en el sufrimiento de los demas para ayudarlos!”’. Habiendo dicho estas palabras dio la vuelta y comenz6 el camino cepcion de la persona de campo que cordialmente ofrece ayuda al viajero necesitado se iba desvaneciendo de a poco dando paso a la imagen de una persona sin piedad ni misericordia y capaz de hacerle dafo. Al estar el conductor a unos pasos de la vivienda, su sentimien- to de necesidad y humildad se habia convertido ya en enojo hacia el propietario que no queria “supuestamente” ofrecerle ayuda. Golpeé la puerta de la casa violentamente y cuando una persona de regreso a su automévil, dejando a la otra persona parada en la puerta de su casa en asombro y estupor. En algtin momento de nuestras vidas nuestra percepcion acerca de otra persona o de alguna circun- stancia va a interferir con la realidad y es entonces cuando debemos estar atentos para que esto no suceda, porque al distorcionar una verdad podemos causar dajfio especialmente cuando se trata de la verdadera identidad de alguien. Nunca asumamos que lo que creemos que es como lo vemos, realmente es como lo vemos. Si una tragedia sucediese aqui, nosotros estamos preparados 5 odria suceder aqui? {Cuales son las posiG bilidades de que suceda aqui?. Estas son dos preguntas que cualquier oficial publico se haria a si mismo acerca de cémo esta preparado para el futuro. Muchos aifios atras se hacia preparaci6n para tener a nuestros aeropuertos mas seguros, las Olimpiadas del 2002 estaban en la esquina y se encontré que algunos de quienes estuvieron en los ataques de 9/11 vinieron a través de pequefios aeropuertos de capotaje. ,Podria alguien haber entrado a la Ciudad de Salt Lake a través del aeropuerto de St. George?. Si, pudieron. Asi es que se hicieron preparaciones para tener mas seguridad. Nuestros oficiales en las escuelas en forma rutinaria paran en los pasillos a la gente que no tienen tarjetas de identificacién y los escoltan a la oficina.
