Show In All You Say Get j. j 0 Back To Specifics j 7 by Mark f. f Hofheins Has anyone noticed all the commotion on campus these past two weeks Concerts hot dogs Coca Cola free ice cream the dunking booth and other such campaigning strategies ar are all ll sure signs of its arrival Y Yes in in case you haven't noticed it is election time at the new But these candidates should be out se selling l themselves J to to the voters instead of selling how well they can p put t on a concert in the Quad They rhey should sell their abilities plans and ideas for running the at In observing campaigning efforts of this years year's elections one question comes to mind When are we going back to the future What do I mean by this I simply mean that the past two w weeks ks have sent my memory banks reeling with memories of high school Elections for officers in high school as well as here seem to be at times nothing more than a race of popularity Another sure sign of elections is the new wallpaper adorning every hallway stairway and study hall oh on on campus Everywhere students look they are face to face with pictures and posters pleading for their votes This irritates many More irritating perhaps is when students are forced to look face to face into that of of the real candidate pleading to them Of course this is much more frequent during voting times According to our reigning President Randy Foote there was more interest from members this year than in years past to become involved in Student Government It seems as though more people need help financing their education nowadays and there are waivers and stipends for student officers I remember in last years year's elections here at I voted for people simply because I knew who they were not because of what they might be able to accomplish for me and my school I did not have the faintest notion of what their true plans and ideas entailed This year seems to be following that same pattern Why are these people running for these offices What ideas do they have to improve our school What plans do they have to bring these ideas into reality One issue from most candidates is changing the image of our school from the old Trade Tech to the new new I ask you will this this improve improve my educational educational educational experience h here re All the other issues s seem em to be so vague that one cannot grasp any benefit One candidate would like to try and change specific areas that are in the foremost thoughts of the Just what are these specific areas we students think of Get specific Another candidate wants to continue on with the success that this years year's Executive Council has had Exactly what were the successes of the Executive Council Specifically what successes will you set to achieve Get specific Still another candidates candidate's campaign goals include issues dealing with the handicapped the Art Dept and has ideas for Points West What are the issues that deal with the handicapped What are the Art Depts issues What ideas does he have for Points West Get specific Another issue addressed by more than one candidate is the idea of supporting the clubs organizations and basketball Well good for them Just how will they support these organizations organizations' Get specific Then there is the candidate who is quite frank in saying Im running for the theoffice office because I dont don't know what Im I'm supposed to do if I get it I imagine at least I hope that the candidates all have excellent ideas and plans for their terms in office I also believe that every student on campus has the right to know not only this but also what these things will do to benefit them themas as students Everywhere you hear VOTE and I agree if it is for the right reason But I Isay Isay Isay say please dont don't vote for someone because you have seen their name or face more than others Dont Don't vote because a certain party sponsored an excellent concert or gave you some free ice cream on a hot day If you decide to vote this year know your choices If you are unsure of a candidates candidate's position or want to know what his term in office will do for you as a student at then find the candidate and ask If you dont don't know and dont don't want to find out then please dont don't vote This also is your right Dont Don't step into the voting booth because twenty people around you are saying Come on and vote if you are not prepared to do it responsibly On the front page of last weeks week's Points West there was a message printed in a box which reads VOTE For Your Choice Its It's Your Right To that I add KNOW Your Choice Its It's Your Duty If You Are Going to Vote VOTE because y you u know that your choice will make your educational experience at better for you FLAG DAY JUNE 14 Government is not reason it is not eloquence eloquence it it is force Like fire it is a dangerous servant and anda a fearful master never for a moment moment moment mo mo- ment should it be left to irresponsible irresponsible irresponsible sible action George Washington Gramps Cramps Life is pretty much like a fine tine violin Pick up a
