Show FINAL GAME NEXT SUNDAY Baseball in South Sanpete county is fast drawing to a close for the 1919 season and the management of the Gunnison Cyclones announces one "big card" for one of the closing games. Next Sunday the Salina Whirlwinds, who have, on several occasions, suffered defeat at the hands of the Gunnison team, will "try" again to wrest a game from the local "tossers." The visitors from Sevier county have promised a team that will entertain, en-tertain, if not defeat, the Gunnison lads and there is promise of a "rat-I "rat-I tling" game. The two teams played a dandy game at the Salina diamond last Sun-I Sun-I day. The Gunnison boys, however, outclassed their opponents and while three runs were tallied, not one of them were earned, all being allowed on errors. Gunnison came out victor vic-tor with a total of S runs. Lee Pace, who has been out of the game much of the time this season on account of a "bad arm," was on the mound for Gunnison, and throughout the nine innings he played in fine form, only allowing a few hits, which were scattering. The Gunnison boy's "put one over" on Fairview last Saturday, beating the "pumpkin rollers" out with a score of five to six. At the Fairview game Les Fredricltson, the youthful twirler for Gunnison, pitched a phenomenal phe-nomenal game, allowing the "sure hitters" only three swats. Of the five runs taken by Fairview, one was earned, the four being allowed by "rotten" errors by Gunnison. The series with Fairview-Gunnison stand a victory for each and a tie game. It is likely that the tie game will be played off on some neutral diamond at a later date. The storms and the unsettled condition con-dition of the weather during the past few days, cause much anxiety among the farmers who yet have their crops out. |
