Their business has grown from just a few humble online clicks to a booming bookseller, book-seller, distribution company and online LDS magazine with over 169,000 subscribers. In recent weeks they have taken on the challenge of launching launch-ing a printed version of their popular Internet magazine. The first issue of "LDS Living Magazine" Maga-zine" is in stores everywhere and they, already have thousands of new paid subscribers as well. "We have been so happy with the way everyone has wrapped their arms around this magazine," says Matthew Kennedy, president of LDS Living, Inc. "Since LDS Living Magazine was announced, it has already received more than 8,000 subscribers in all 50 states and 17 countries." Launching the magazine has been no easy task for the online company. "We knew that we would need key partners in creating creat-ing this magazine so we had to find the right team," says Leonard Leon-ard Suprise, vice president of LDS Living. The team that Sup-rise Sup-rise is referring to is Family Living Productions and Stephen Hales Creative, both of Provo. Family Living's Howard Collett and Kim Henderson have produced several successful magazines including, "Word Perfect" magazine and "Creating Keepsakes." Stephen Hales Creative Cre-ative has a twenty-year portfolio of some of Utah's most popular design work. Both companies have worked together on other magazine projects. Kennedy says the new, principle-based publication is different i Frank Memory of Springville has been elected Commander of the Utah World War II Submarine Subma-rine Veterans. "To those who caught even a glimpse of daily life in Afghanistan," Afghani-stan," said Dr. Ghate. "the contrast con-trast to life in the United States is shocking. In that primitive country coun-try there are few cars or paved roads, no shopping malls or bountiful grocery stores, virtually no high-rises, little in the way of entertainment, a few hospitals, no high-tech devices. What there is, in abundance, is the back-breaking labor of a subhuman existence. exis-tence. Unlike America, Afghani View From Town Square Why worry about by C.W. (Chuck) Aldridge There have been NO weapons inspections in Iraq for over four years. There is proof and other indications that Saddam Hussein is continuing to develop weapons of mass destruction including, chemical, biological and nuclear devices. However he had lacked the means to deliver them to the heart of America. We (the rest of the civilized world) must not wait for a terrorist terror-ist attack before we respond. We must eliminate Saddam's ability to create weapons of mass destruction de-struction NOW. Because the attack on the World Trade Center on September ll, 2001 gave the al-Qaida terror network and its leadership a successful mission to prove their ability to deploy and deliver destruction on the United States within our own borders. Using a well orchestrated plan and implementing ordinary American Ame-rican transportation services as their deliver devices they dealt a coordinated, devastating, dastardly dastard-ly blow, killing over 3,000 men, women and children. These two evil groups have and are getting together. They will attack... It's just a matter of "The best way to honor the victims of September 11 is to prevent future attack," said Yaron Brook, executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute. "We must acknowledge that the Americans killed on September Septem-ber 1 1 died needlessly. They died because of the errors and evasions eva-sions in our foreign policy. For Health Notes When it comes to walking, the magic number is 10,000-steps, that is. Walk that many each day and you're well on your way to fitness. By walking 10,000 steps, you've covered about 4 miles. If you want to lose weight as well as stay fit, you'll probably need to walk up to 20,000 steps. A good way to keep track of your steps is by investing in a pedometer. pedome-ter. When you wake up in the morning, put on your pedometer and watch as every step gets you closer to your goal. Of course, the best way to get a good start is by walking at least 30 minutes for exercise. That will get you halfway, depending on how quickly you walk. And if you find yourself getting behind, here's how to add a few more steps. You'll be amazed at how quickly they add up: - Instead of using e-mail, walk to a colleague's desk. - Walk in to the counter of a fast food restaurant instead of using the drive-through (but don't think that gives you permission to super-size the fries). - Walk around the house while you're on the phone. - Park your car farther from your destination. And remember, you can walk almost anywhere at almost anytime, any-time, and it doesn't cost a thing. It appears that the epidemic of childhood asthma in this country has peaked. After almost 20 years of steady increases, rates stabilized in the late 1990s, although al-though experts are at a loss to explain why. African-American children have an asthma rate 44 percent higher than Caucasian children. And they are only three times as .likely to be hospitalized and four times as likely to die from the disease. About one in every 20 American children has September 11, 2002 - The Springville Herald - Page Seven stan has scant material wealth and virtually no industrialization. "Why? What explains this lack? Only one factor: the absence ab-sence of freedom." "The American way of life is. fundamentally, a life of individual individu-al liberty," said Dr. Ghate. "Devoid "De-void of the freedom that America's Ameri-ca's men in uniform safeguard. Afghanistan lacked the type of person who flourishes only under freedom: the businessman. The businessman is the one who devotes his mind to producing wealth. He is the creator of the American way of life. Without his present and past actions, our daily lives would resemble the dismal existence of the Afehan- time.... Their plan, like the first attack, at-tack, could be fairly simple. Smuggle the weapons to America and have "Sleeper" al-Qaida terrorists pick them up and deliver deliv-er them. But you say where and how will they strike? I believe the targets will be large numbers of people. It will be more likely 75,000 to 150,000 assembled together. Scenario 1 . The terrorists will buy tickets in the cheap seats. You know the nose bleed area high up in the stands. They will deploy six or more around the upper perimeter of the stadium. At some prearranged signal, such as the end of the first quarter, they will get up and walk to the railing caring their 48 ounces of chemicalbiological agents and open the cap and dump the contents con-tents into the air currents. These are suicide terrorists so they will not try to protect themselves and will then fling themselves over the side. Scenario 1. As many of you know "close" only counts in horseshoes and nuclear war. This being the case, then the terrorists need only park "close" to the victims: wage war decades we have appeased, offered of-fered the other cheek to, and even armed, an enemy whose ideology requires our destruction. To ensure that no future Americans Ameri-cans lose their lives to the militant mili-tant Islamic fundamentalists, we must reverse course and fight a real war against the states that sponsor terrorism." "But a real war," Dr. Brooks said, "is not waged by dropping bread instead of bombs over enemy territory. The inventory could include, the nerve agent VX, the nerve agent sarin. Mustard gas. Anthrax, Botulinum toxin. Anatoxin, Ana-toxin, as well as nuclear "clean" or "dirty" bombs, and there are others. So, we Americans have a choice to make. We can either support the President and gel Saddam out of power by whatever whatev-er means necessary, or, we can wait for the next attack and the subsequent death of many thousands thou-sands and then go after him. 1 believe we should ACT not RE ACT...
