Show St. George, Utah, Dec. 18, '82. mmu Ed. Union: We thought when our interes'ing Conference closed, what a chance was opened for some of us to ,B store our not over-stoclicci craniurns H wiih a little sound sense by the con . LL vening of our next Quarterly, on the 17th and 18th of March, 1883. H Then arose the question, How is it to be done? First, let me see if X 'H have got my reports all in from my 'ifl ward before I go myself. Xict me sec v it there s any possiblo chance for me to come in for and haye to, take, "mm boms wiih '.me, when I'return a few" broadsides in the shnpe of lacking- re- porrs from all but two or three of the fl wards composing the St. George Stake of Zion. If I am a Bishop, I cannot accoir.- plish this by sit Ling down and waiting? . f jH for some other'one to make them up for me: next time I will look after '"fl each man and woman and see that all have got their duty done, thereby doing mine; in the first place by visit- ing Ihcm in turn and talk some of the good things I have heard, to them, not as a Bifchop, but as a good, kind father, in a good, kind way, that will show them that I am looking for their welfare, and I will get them interest- ed in learning some of the truths which have been so strongly testified .B of, in so many different accents, and r1 with such force sis to cause some of our many speakers to glow with the pood spirit which warmed them up, and if I have not got any of that spirit v'B to help me, I will try and pet some of ' it, so that I can diffuse it among my children who have been placed under my watchcare, and thus brighten ray- H self a lit tie and them a good deal, H When any want to learn whose mm .place it is to diffuse instruction among the children, 1 think I can make them flfl like me a little by being kind, affable, friendly, and willing to hear their H grievances and show them some way out of their difficulties by giving them , 1 some good, kind advice. Will thiy - M '' not increase their love and respect for ' me? 1 believe it will. I'll (think B of it.) JVb, FCC try it! and if my family do no be improyed, as well- as Br myself, by the next Conference, then I I'll say I'm not fit to take charge of these people and act the part of a father to them. I Now, what else? I'll set as good an example as I possibly can, use no bad language, or fail to visit the poor, needy, sink, or distressed: I will not be influenced by hear-say, thus giving unrighteous decisions where I am not posted on all sides. Seek by precept aad example to have a full supply of the Holy Ghost with me, that through my prayers I may be able to teach them how to obtain the same blessings, by our all being united and working with heart and hand for the same end and make each other truly happy. Why should we fail in this course? There is no such thing as fall, for God will not require anything of His servants except He prepares a way for its performance Plow many times has the way been opened to the elders to travel from land to land when car- Irying the glad tidings of joy which lias gladdened our hearts so many times. I believe it is true; yea, verily I know it is true! I have tried Him and He lias answered my prayers pray-ers and endeavors to do good in the past, and Iwerily know He ' will answer an-swer in the future; and I declare, I try it again. If failure comes, it shall . not be on my part;. so here goes for a renewed effort. Very Respectfully, Anon. |
