Show From our regular Correspondent. . Springdale, CJtaV, Jan. 5, 1883. Ed. Union:- The weather has been very line for a long time and the earth became almost devoid of moisture; roads very dusty and almost impassable: impassa-ble: but a sudden change came over the face of the land and a white mantle man-tle could be seen far and near, but . f the bright rays of the sun soon overpowered over-powered the congealing element and mud appeared in its place. The same power that burst the frozen bands is fast causing the watery element to disappear. " A Our hollidays passed off very ogre-ab!y. ogre-ab!y. Our children enjoyed the Christmas-tree and a visit from Santa Cihus. The celebration at Kockville, of the Birth-day of the Prophet Joseph Smith, was truly a time of rejoicing. The instructions given of late at the Priesthood meetings of the different quorums have been truly instructive and of an exaltirg nature. Sickness is almost unknown in the Rockville Ward at present. No -rowdyism in the Ward during the Lolli-days, Lolli-days, Young people are becoming more thoughtful, and the fatherly care of our bishop is winning the hearts of all, both old and young. Quite a number are about to leave the Ward, in hopes of finding more elbow room, not to get rid of their neighbors, but to better their condition. condi-tion. 1 will mention one incident to shew the good feelling that exists between those who are about to leave us and those who stay. On the 3rd inst. a surprise party was inaugerated by the Relief Society of Rockville, for their President, sister Laura Morris. Brother and sister Morris, with others who are about to leave, were invited to dir.e with bishop C. N. Smith, and were kept in close quarters by the in-(eiesting in-(eiesting conversation of the Bishop, . his ood wife and others, until the people had assembled in the School ' house, and tables were spread with 1 the richest food that God had seen fit to bestow upon His Saints in this part of the vineyard. When the Bishop learned that all things were ready for the surprise, he said to brother M., Don't you want some companv? The answer was Yes, will you go home with us? All right, says the Bishop but when they came to the School house, the door was open, and o course they walked in, and being seated, seat-ed, sister Kazire Hall told the object of the gathering, which was, indeed, a surprise to sister Morris, After the picnic had been served to the satisfaction satisfac-tion of all, speehes were made by the sistors.all expressing great satisfaction with the labors of sister Morris as President of the Society, and their regret re-gret in parting with her. Songs, recitations, reci-tations, music, etc., were interspersed, a few short speeches made by the brethren, and closing remarks by bishop C. N. Smith, who presented to bister Morris a fine goldtrimmed book of Doctrine and Cove nants. Also the 'Teachers of the Society presented her a very nice Picuture Album. All, both old and young, seemed to enjoy themselves almost beyond expression. I remain, yours very truly, S."K b'lFFOJRD. |
