Sperry JHS Correspondent The Juab High School Baseball team easily defeated the St. Joseph Jayhawks 18-- 4 and 22-- 5 last week in a region double-headat St. Joseph. After the first four innings of the first game, Juab had a dominant 0 lead. The Wasps really started heating up in the fifth, though. The first 7 batters for Juab made it all the way around to home plate. Trevor Casper started the charge with an RBI which was followed by several great plays by the Wasps. They added 3 more runs in the 6th inning to finish the victory. The Jayhawks could only muster 4 runs in the game. The final score was 18-- 4 for Juab. In the game Trevor Casper had 3 runs, 3 home runs, 3 RBIs, and a double. Josh Park had 3 runs, 3 hits, 2 RBIs, a double, and a triple. Jared Jarrett had 2 runs, 1 hit, an RBI, and a triple. Shane Woolslayer had 2 runs, 3 hits, 2 RBIs, and a double. Brett Mortensen had 2 runs, 2 hits, 1 RBI, and a double. Jeremy Lynn had 1 run, 1 hit, 2 RBIs, and a double. Placing on the Boys team was Mark Goble, 4th in 110 meter hurdles and 3rd in 300 meter hurdles;. By Angie Sperry JHS Correspondent The Juab High School Softball team couldnt get things rolling last week as they played strong teams from South Summit and Grantsville. Juab lost the that were very close. In the first game against South Summit, the Wasps got behind early as they were down 6 after the fourth inning. The second game was much closer as Juab played tough defense and was able to get their batting rolling. The Cats made one run in the fifth inning while Juab batted in 5 runners. The score was then 6- 6 going into the sixth inning. Both teams remained scoreless through the sixth, but in the seventh inning South Summit got 2 runners in. The Lady Wasps could only get in one runner and lost the game 87. The pitcher for the Wasps in this game was Allynne Bailey. Juab had 3 errors in the game. The Wasps had 8 hits while the Cats got only 6. Stephanie Boyd had a home run for Juab, In a double-headagainst Grantsville, the Wasps didnt have much better luck. They improved their fielding but just couldnt get the fiats going, said Coach Alley Gee. The final score of the first game was 0 for Grantsville. The next game went a little better offensively for Juab as they scored 5 runs. Grantsville still bettered the Wasps as they batted in 8 players in the win. Juabs 8 errors also proved det5-- 1. r.lccl in discus; Ryan Baird, 6th in high jump; Nathan Belliston, 8th in high jump; and Jimmy Coray, 10th in high jump. The Boys Medley team took 1st overall. Members of that team are Mark Goble running a 200, Casey Reynolds running a 200, Jeff Paystrup running a 400, and Andy Messersmith running the 800. The 4x400 Relay team took 3rd overall. Members include Jeff Paystrup, Mike Spencer, Jon Truscott, and Casey Reynolds. The 4x100 team took 7th. Members are Jeff Paystrup, Ben Sevy, Casey Reynolds, and Andy Messersmith. The Girls team took 3rd place overall with 58.5 points. Individual placers for the Wasps were Katie Brough, 1st in 100 meter hurdles and 2nd in 300 meter hurdles; Karrie Kenison, 4th in 1600 meter run; Shantell Hall, 4th in javelin and 8th in discus; Sharinda Kay, 1st in high jump; Nettie Smalley, 8th in high jump; and Mary Dawn Sperry, 11th in high jump. The Girls Relay teams also did very well. The 4x400 Relay team took 1st overall. Members include Angie Sperry, Katie Brough, Kathryn Woodland, and Cassie Ricks. The 4x100 Relay team took 2nd overall. Annie Brough, Sharinda Kay, Cassie Ricks, and Angie Sperry make up that team. The Medley team took 8th overall. Members of that team are Annie Brough, Cassie Ricks, Angie Sperry, and Jenny Wilson. The Region Championship Meet will be held this Friday at North Summit High School. Admission for spectators is $2.00 for adults, $1.00 for students and children age 5 and over. Participants will be judged on dance technique, showmanship, kicks, splits, a military and dance routine. Academic requirements must also be met. Those trying out have attendk ed a training workshop in preparation for the try outs. Dance Judges are from the Utah and Drill Association. ' PIANO AWARD Megan Jones received her 30 point Gold Cup April 19th in Ephraim. The award is given by the Central Utah Music Teachers Association to students who have accumulated at least 30 points through participation in the annual Junior Piano Festival. Megan has received a Superior rating at the festival for each of the past six years. Megan is the daughter of Russ and Diane Jones of Nephi.
