Show page 4 The Grantsville GAZETTE Wednesday September 9 1987 There are a lot of people who walk in Grantsville early in the morning and late in the evening We have asked some of these people to list the benefits they receive from walking THELMA YOUNG: "I walk NOLACOLE: for my health" LEE "It wakes you up and gets the day off to a good start" J WILLIAMS: "I walk to keep my blood pressure in control and to eep my weight down" CAROL WARBURTON: "I go for privacy and meditation but mostly privacy" ABBEY PASKETT: LaNAE WILLIAMS: "it is very enjoyable" "To feel better improve health get physically fit and keep the weight down the morning" The Next Trend by Dennis Hinkamp Consumer Information Writer Utah State University I no take longer marketing forecasters lightly About four years ago one of them told me that the next great trend was going to be walking "Walking?" I asked Sure hasn’t that been around for a couple dozen centuries already? He was right and I was right Although most of us took up walking at an early age it is now the newest fitness alternative to all the joint crush ing activities we have taken up in the last decade Running and heavy aerobic dance routines have given way to the gentle art of putting one foot in front of the other The marketing guys were right There are now walking magazines walking clothes and the major shoe companies are all coming out with walking shoes I was still a doubter though until the final confirmation of this trend appeared --- I read yesterday that Jane Fonda had come out with walking workout tapes For about $19 you get portable encouragement from Jane via two cassette tapes designed to plug into your portable tape machine The two tapes offer upbeat music and some words of advice from the nation’s foremost actressexercise entrepreneur while you walk So what are the marketing guys talking about now? A return to spirituality Note this is not necessarily a return to religion but rather spirituality What this will mean exactly in terms of products is hard to say but it is safe to say the hard sell technique is definitely on the wane Marketing magazines predict there will likely be an increased emphasis on warranties and providing e 800 numbers to answer questions about products Spiritual interest is showing up in some of the strangest' places One marketing magazine published a report on people and their food preferences toll-fre- It gets your heart going early in and found that there were underlying spiritual issues people associated with foods The spiritual side of food was connected with words such as vitamins raw natural and nutrition The sensual side of food was associated with words such as calorie tempting filling and sweet The conclusion of this report was that we have a constant inner struggle between temptation and discipline with regards to food So even though you know that the make-u- p artists and the helicopters are just a few feet off camera the ads showing people eating cereal on mountain-top- s really do appeal to our spiritual side The Tooele Community School Classes will begin the week of The following are September 9 corrected classes from last week’s ad in the Grantsville Gazette If you have any questions about the classes being offered this fall or if you would like to attend a class that isn’t being offered you may call Russell Rimington at 5 7 or 7 or Steve Larson at 14-1- 882-091- 882-148- 884-679- TOOELE CLASSES CLASS INSTRUCTOR Anna Gonzales Gymnastics Beginning-Intermediate-Advanc- TIME ed day Sat hourly classes taught each hour 9-- 10 ROOM LENGTH gym 10-1- 1 11-1- 2 noon io wk COST $15 GRANTSVILLE CLASSES $15 $15 $15 $15 $15 $15 proj proj |
