Paul Caldwell gingerly unload unserviceable munitions from a 2701st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron truck at Lakeside Range, in preparation for disposal. A1C Michael Nazionale (in truck) checks the items before removing them from the vehicle, while CMSgt. Bobbie Ridgeway supervises the operation. The disposal is conducted monthly by squadron personnel to destroy munitions no longer serviceable due to damage, corrosion, malfunctioning, expired shelf life, or other reasons. The munitions are destroyed either by burning or detonation, as prescribed by technical directives. Disposal operations are part of a program to insure only safe, reliable munitions are used by our military forces.
