Show I 1 william oscar bentley suddenly called home william oscar bentley departed this life at his home in this city at 8 50 a m march 15 1920 ot of heart trouble he ile left the breakfast table in his usual health and went to the corral where he had harnessed the team and was loading some willows into the wagon when last seen by members of the family about 9 a m his brother frank was passing and noticed oscar lying on the ground near the willows where he had fallen a few minutes before lite life was extinct as death had come instantaneous deceased was born on august 24 1851 at Hanes ville iowa a son of richard bentley and elizabeth price bentley in 1852 the family arrived in salt lake city and subsequently lived in nephi utah and carson valley nevada returning to utah at the time of the johnson army trouble in the year 1864 the family moved to st george oscar being thirteen years of age at the time on march 5 1879 he married mary alary ann mansfield daughter of mathew mansfield and johanna nine children have been born to mr and mrs airs bentley eight of whom are still living in the early spring of 1893 oscar was called to perform a mission in the northern states from which labor he was honorably released in the spring of 1895 since returning home he has been attentive to his church duties during the last few years he has spent much ot of his time working in the temple he has been regularly advanced in the priesthood and at the time of his death was a high priest most of his life has been spent as teamster farmer and during the early days of dixie he did the freighting from salt lake city and other points farther south for his father who was the first merchant of st george brother bentley la is survived by his wife eight children mrs afro george at rogers mrs ed A everett W 0 bentley jr miss bessie boggle gordon mrs airs wm B bradshaw mathew al and lerol all of whon live in bt st george also by the following brothers and sisters mrs emma woolley of kanab utah mrs afro annia annie terry of delta utah frank it bentley of st george utah and joseph C bentley of colonia duraz mexico there are thirteen grandchildren living funeral services were held in the stake tabernacle tuesday march at 2 p m A large gathering of friends and acquaintances was in attendance bishop james mcarth ur presided at tit the services the singing was furnished b by the west ward relief society cadir and a beautiful quartette was sung by sis big nellie bringhurst Dring huret and mamie jos win wm mcallister McAll isler and george F whitehead the speakers were elders john E pace and george brooks pres david H can non and pros edw H snow all testified of the worth honesty and integrity of the departed he was a consistent latter day saint a true friend a loving husband and a devoted father elder george georga W worthen offered the opening prayer and elder brigham jarvis pronounced the benediction the casket was covered with wreaths and boquete of beautiful flowers the grave v as dedicated by elder john sullivan Sull tvan some same of the teachers and classes of the woodward school marched to the cemetery with beautiful flowers that were placed on the grave with those that had been on the casket the wreaths from the woodward school and one from the D no C fourth fourtha year class were elegant the fourth year wreath was a large one made of pear blossoms the three w wreaths from the woodward school were each made up of beautiful fruit blossoms one forming a 4 large lar 0 sell B 00 ano another ther a cross and the othor other one an anchor A beautiful wreath of artificial flowers was the work of mrs lemmons Le nimons |
