Show By Marlene Haws - 826-4859 So many friends, relatives, old neighbors and former residents visiting vis-iting in town for Memorial Day. Where to start? Two hundred descendents of the Jared Riley and Alice Lovina Griffin Grif-fin Porter family were in attendance at the Porter Reunion on Saturday, May 27. Sixty-five members of the Howard and Lena Alvey family hosted the reunion this year. This included Leva and Wayne Briarley, Roy; Barney Hill, Vaughn and Kay Alvey and Michael D. and LexAnn Alvey, all of Sandy. They are all from the Thomas and Emily Porter Alvey family. There were 10 representatives of the Hy Porter family; seven from the Edith P. Barney family; 14 from the Adelia P. Roundy family; one from the Parley Porter family; 59 from the Leland Porter family; and 38 from the Roland Porter family. fam-ily. There were no representatives from the Inez P. Shurtz or the Jode Porter family this year. There was a Woolsey reunion going on this past weekend also. We would like to hear from some of them. Voyle and Lillian Munson, Bountiful, visited at the home of Nelda Munson. Barbara Munson was here from Provo also. She brought Nelda home three weeks ago and Nelda will be staying here for the summer, with the help of her granddaughter, Mindy Munson. Visiting at the home of Grace Barney were Stan and Mitzi Hunter, Orem and Mac and Jo Barney, Cedar City. Ray and Lois Barney are here again also. Tamera Pendleton, Springville, came to visit her grandma Hazel Spencer for the weekend. Analee and Reed Knudsen, May-field, May-field, and daughter Shayleen Piquet and son Jaymon, were at the home Vernon Spencer and visited Ed and Camille Shakespear. Alan and Regina Griffin, Provo, brought their family of eight to spend the weekend with Alan's parents, par-ents, Lewis and Jean Griffin. (See ESCALANTE on page 7-A) ESCALANTE From Page 4-A Gwen Lyman is home after spending the winter in Delano, Calif, with her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Milton Woolsey. The Woolsey' s brought her home and another daughter, Rosemary Palmer, came to help her settle in. Darwin and Tyra Ludgate, Cedar City, spent the weekend at the home of Wallace and Judy Ludgate. Visiting at the Roundy family home were: Vernon and Peggy Roundy, Monroe; Dean and Kim Roundy, Annabella; Steve and Cheryl Cox, St. George, who also spent time at their cabin in Boulder; Gene and Renon Reed, Richfield; and Robbie and Dianne Pierce, Redmond; and there were eight or nine kids among them! Marva, Peggy, Myrna, and Carol Mounteer came from Kearns for the weekend to decorate the cemetery and visit friends and relatives. rela-tives. Garl and Patsy Cottam and Stanley and Cheryl Cottam and daughters of Provo spent a few nights at their home here. The families of Kevin Porter, Parowan, Vergeania Davenport, Summit and Clint Porter, Cedar City, visited Carolyn and Vergean Porter over the holiday weekend. Klyn and Marlene Haws and daughter Jillyn Sorensen and daughters daugh-ters of Salina went to Loma, Colo, for the graduation of Terrilee Haws, daughter of Robert and Goldie Haws. The family of Velma Boulter present the program in LDS Second ward Sacrament meeting on Sunday. Sun-day. Her grandson, Shaun Stracener, told of his missionary experiences in Honduras during the hurricane and flooding that took place there. He had to return home after 18 months and have surgery on his knee, then went to 'the Louisiana, Lou-isiana, Baton Rouge mission to finish out his two years. His mother, Sondra Boulter, was also a speaker, as well as his cousins. Brent Porter, Teresa LeSueur and her daughter Melanie, all of Mesa, Ariz., sang a beautiful song entitled "In This Very Room." They were accompanied on the piano by Sandra San-dra Porter, Brent and Teresa's mother. Craig and Frankie Lou Evans of Sandy came for their annual Memorial Memo-rial Day weekend visit with Eric and Sheri Woolsey. Visiting this year also were Frankie Lou's brother Jerry Imlay and his wife Louise of Hinkley. Their parents, Glen and Colleen Imlay, of Evan-ston, Evan-ston, Wyo., visited at the home of Margean Schow, as did Twila ' Michelangelo, Richfield. They also visited with Francis and Barbara Imlay, Leah Button has moved here from Kanab. ' She is living in the trailer next to her brother Frank ' Coleman. Word has it that she is nursing a broken wrist! Carrie Griffin is home recover-' recover-' ing from surgery. Al Barlow also had surgery. ; Get well wishes to all! Travis and Ashley Cottam were . ' weekend visitors at the home of Myron and Sanette Cottam. Myron and Sanette are thoroughly enjoying playing the grandparent bit! Bill and Dawn Griffin went to St. George for the high school graduation of their granddaughter Lindsay Griffin, daughter of Randy and Lesa Griffin. Randy and Lesa then brought their kids to Escalante for an overnight visit. I noticed Acel Boyce and his wife in the congregation at church. It was been a long time since he paid us a visit. Berniece Losee, Spanish Fork, spent a few days here with her daughter and son-in-law Sandie and Ron Hitchcock. Kenneth and Marie Griffin and daughter DeLoa Fillmore of Provo, are spending a few days here at their summer home. Budd Porter, Provo, and the family of Cornell and Ruth Porter, Salt Lake City, were in town for the Porter Reunion. Edith Sharp and family, Bountiful, were here and Stuart and Debbie Nelson of Green River also visited. The family of Haws and Janet Porter have been here for a week or so at their summer place. Jim and Lola Alvey, sons Jesse and Jeffrey and Eva Dean Liston were in town for a short visit and returned to Mapleton before Memorial Memo-rial Day. Ben and Renee Porter went the graduation ceremonies for their granddaughter in Provo, then hurried hur-ried back home to attend the Porter reunion. Their family was all here for the occasion. |
