Show PIONEER COUPLE MARRIED 63 YEARS mr ad mrs airs charles F P foster of 0 this city celebrated the an Iver sary of their wedding day wednesday at their home mr air poster foster and Par pamella nells duncan leae married in the endowment house at salt lake I atee city may 3 1870 by daniel 11 wells they came ot of sturdy stock and came with the pioneers of dixie undergoing tile the privation and hardships incidental to the se settling t aling of this then sterile land along with the other early settlers mr air poster foster was born at pigeon town county iowa A august 23 1847 ills his parents and oilier oher members of 0 the family had joined the L D S church and were preparing to join the second company ot of pioneers to utah in 1847 when indians stole their cattle and had to walt wait until they got other cattle before they could maloe make the journey ile he with his parents and the rest of the family arrived at salt lake city in 1850 in 1861 mr air poster foster was called to help settle battle st george and arrived la in december that year being among the first pioneers of st george ile he spent the next tour four years in st george then with hta his wife moved onto land on the santa clara creek where by their thedr industry they built up a tine fine farm and had six children born t 0 them they lived on their farm for 18 years then coved to st george while living on farm mr air poster foster was waa called on a mission to england and during his absence hla his wife took rare care of the farm before going to take up ills his farm freighting and cattle driving he brought freight from california in 1862 and freighted in nebraska in 1867 in 1866 lie he went out with a company to nebraska to bring in it a party of emigrants to utah in 1868 he helped drive head of cattle to los Ail angelea geles calif on one stretch of desert the cattle going three days without water in 1869 lie he with others went to california to bring in goods tor for the coop stores while returning home one of the party frank woolley was killed by indians on the mohave riding a mule woolley had turned back to try recovery of three horses which had gone astray as he was unarmed mr air foster offered him the loan of a pistol but woolley declined there was no danger after waiting some time for him to show up a search was made and hla his dead body was found he hav ing been killed together with his mule mr foster was also one pt the party that went in pursuit of the navajo indians who killed mei intyre and whitmore near pipe springs arizona mr air posters fosters principal occupy tion has haa been farming and cattle raising ile he has also owned a store here tor for many years has haa been a city councilman tor for three terms and Is one of the directors of the bank ot of st george lie he has always been an indus industrious trio us man and despite hla his age still looks after his garden and walks to and from the bank to attend the meetings of directors mrs airs poster foster was horn born may 20 1850 and came to dixie in 1863 the aged couple have five children living one son mild and tour four daughters and 20 grandchildren tho the news extends greetings and a sincere desire that the remain I 1 der of their life on earth will be peaceful and happy washington county news |
