Show mrs olsons father dead last sundays salt lake tribune contained the following account of the death of W w V cluff father to mrs W P F olson of this city who was at the bedside when the end came william W cluff a pioneer of salt lake is dead at the family home 1246 axt second south street general debility was the cause of death mr cluff was 83 years of age he lie was born march 8 1832 in willoughby granger county ohio shortly after his birth mr duffs cluffs parents joined the mormon church and moved mored to kirkland ohio then the mormon headquarters in 1840 they moved to nauvoo and in 1846 joined the exodus to utah the cluffs bluffs stopped in council bluffs however until 1850 when they continued to provo much of mr cluffs life was devoted to religious work in 1854 ho he was sent with eighteen others to the sandwich islands where he be remained four years in 1859 he went to denmark remaining there three years returning to utah in 1864 he wa was married to ann whipple in 1865 he was again called to the sandwich islands for missionary work do upon bis his return he was sent to preside over mormon settlements in blo igan summit and nd wasatch coun ties in 1869 he wd wai again sent sont to denmark to take charge of mormon missions making his headquarters in copenhagen returning two years later he was made president of summit stake comprising all settlements of summit county utah and a part of wyoming he ile occupied this position until his retirement from active life in 1901 since that time he had lived in salt lake with his family mr air cluff is s survived by his widow mrs airs ann whipple cluff four children IV IV cluff jr of salt lake P mrs airs NV W P F olson price mrs airs G A light salt lake mrs L E eldredge salt lake and fourteen grandchildren he is also survived by the following brothers harvey 11 samuel S jerry hyrum and henry of provo and alfred A and orson of mesa anz ariz funeral services were held tuesday at th residence 1240 E second south bishop william armstrong of the eleventh ward presided horace S ensign winnifred smith cannon and the hawaiian quartet sang president smith said he had bad known mr air cluff for more than sixty one years and in closing his remarks paid a high tribute to bis his integrity joseph A fisher of coalville Co alville offered the opening prayer president anthon H lund bishop george beard of coalville Co alville president seymour B boling of the first council of seventies being among the speakers the benediction was offered by alma eldredge Eld and the grave was dedic dedicated atod by seymour B young W B rosser was down from black hawk tuesday ties day and reports that he will try to bring MI 11 hh big friends to the pien picnic lo 10 tomorrow |
