Show "llf Battle Creek Today marks the third anniversary anni-versary of BATTLE CREEK BREEZE. Three years ago the REVIEW carried a short column representing my first humble effort. ef-fort. The composing of the hundred fifty six columns has been withal a pleasure and a challenge. The reactions of my numerous readers have been interesting and for the most part complimentary; and for this I am truly grateful. Writing as I have continued to do on controversial subjects, the expressed comments of friends have been both encouraging and helpful. There have ben just enough brickbats among the bouquets bou-quets to add spice and stimulation. Freedom of the press is a priceless price-less heritage. Most of us who were born and reared under the advantages advan-tages of the American way of life, take the blessings of free speech for granted. Never having experienced exper-ienced the deadening, stifling influence in-fluence of a controlled and censored cen-sored press, we cannot visualize what life would be like if we heard or read only the biased propoganda of the frenzied dictators. The thousands who each month are fleeing tyranny and regimentation regimen-tation under the Iron Curtain, in the hope that they may find safety safe-ty and freedom in the democracies is sufficient proof of the damnable doctrine of the Communist State. The fight to preserve the blessings bless-ings of the Four Freedoms will not end soon. The battle, good against evil is as old as the human race. The conflict assumes various and diverse forms, but the same fundamental funda-mental principles are involved love vs. hatred; right vs. might; truth vs. error; Christianity vs. Athieism. Those who are now bearing the brunt of the age-old conflict should not lose heart. They should take comfort in the thought that the greatest benefactors of humanity have devoted their talents, their energies, and often their lives to th universal cause of truth. The purpose of the Christian life was perhaps never more clearly defined than in the words of the Master: "For whosoever shall find his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life, for my sake, the same shall find it." So long 'til FiTday. |
