Show FOR POLYGAMY A Stubborn PrisonerCapt Green mans Chase Deputy Marshal Greenman sallied forth from Commissioner McKays office yes terday afternoon with a warrant for the arrest of Parley Pratt charged with po lygamy Pratt was found in the post office and when informed of the state of affairs by Capt Greenman ho refused to accompany that officer to the Marshals office Moral suasion finally prevailed however and the prisoner was induced to enter Marshal Irelands apartments Now said Capt Greenman uyou sit down and stay here while I go into the court room and get Mr Dickson and we will go up to Commissioner McKays together Pratt did as ho was directed but Greenman had no sooner disappeared than he bolted out the door down stairs and out the building Capt Greenman returned from the court room about this time and immediately started in pursuit and a lively chase up Main street ensued Pratt was overtaken near T R Jones bank and informed that if he made another attempt to escape ho would be put in irons Arriving at Commissioner McKays office Pratt absolutely refused to go up stairs until he was seized by the shoulders and given a starter Mr F S Richards appeared as Pratts counsel and Mr Dickson for the prosecution prosecu-tion The examination was postponed until G oclock Wednesday evening as Mr Dicksons duties in the District Court will not permit him to attend in the daytime day-time Bail was fixed at 2500 and Marshal Phillips and Alma Pratt were accepted as sureties The complaint which was sworn to by Marshal Ireland charges Pratt with the offences of polygamy and unlawful cohabitation co-habitation The names of the alleged wives are Romania Doe Brigamina Pratt and Susan Pulley and the date of the last alleged marriage is May 1st 1883 It is alleged that the first wife Dr Romania Pratt has been divorced from her husband for several years |
