Show SPRING. How beautiful is the spring's unfolding. Daily the snow retreats farther and farther back In the .fastnesses of the hills; slowly the verdure appears ap-pears and stretches itself like the beginning of tho awakening jf a strong man after a profound 'sleep. The streams that the winter muffled find again their voices and go babbling on; the trees, one by one, are putting on their new vestments; the fruit trees are sending out their blooms; the migratory birds have returned and forget the toil of rehabilitating their old homes by singing; in a few days more a multitude of flowers will have appeared to gladden eyes that have grown weary looking upon the snow. Tho transformation of the spring is a delight to the eyes, when considered consid-ered as a material fact. But when tne imagination imagina-tion is given a little play, what then? It is a symbol of a resurrection from the dead. If the sunbeams can be called to touch a frozen world and to bring it back to life; to insure to mortals another harvest, to return to the trees their royal green and to the shrub its flowers, why that is a manifestation as wonderful us it Would be to touch "tho dull cold ear of death" and bring back smiles to faces that had grown drawn and, still. Is it more wonderful that a heaven-lighted heaven-lighted s,oul can be recalled after it has once fled, than that the migratory birds should return? Spring is a delight to mortal eyes; it Is a reas-smance reas-smance $sthe eye of faith, it renews hope In tho human hearty for all its manifestations aio piom-Ises piom-Ises of good, promises of the harvest that is to be, promises of a spft clime and music after the winter win-ter of life shall haye. passed. |
