Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Gray and three children of Downey, Idaho, spent Sunday with Mr. Gray's parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Gray. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor and baby daughter, LaNae of Salt Lake City spent Sunday with Mr. Tay lor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald R. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs, Vernon Monson of Los Angeles called on Lehi relatives relat-ives and friends Monday afternoon. after-noon. Mrs. Monson is the former Emma Bradshaw of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pierson and baby of Salt Lake City called on Mrs. Theo Pierson Tuesday afternoon, after-noon, and spent the day. , Mr. and Mrs. J. Freeman Royle left Friday for St. George, where they attended funeral services for Mrs. Royle's sister, Mrs. Mamie Paxman, who died early Thursday morning of a heart attack. Mr. and Mrs. Royle returned home Sunday Sun-day night. Mrs. Anna Fritz is visiting this week with friends and relatives in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Littleford visited in Pleasant Grove Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ira Devereaux. John Bolivar of Sandy spent Tuesday with his sister, Mrs. Jam es P. Christensen. Gerald Taylor and Morris Holm- stead were among the lucky elk hunters at Coon Canyon near Tooele, Too-ele, returning home Sunday afternoon after-noon with their prize. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lewis of Salt Lake City spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George' A. Lewis, Jack is attending the U. of U. George Lott returned home this week from Tooele, where he has been visiting for two weeks. Mrs. Lott remained in Murray where she will spend a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Ed Phillips, before returning' home. Mrs. Junius Banks spent two days last week-end at the genealogical geneal-ogical library in Salt Lake City. Primary officers and teachers of the First ward held their monthly preparation meeting at the home of Mrs. Eva Carson following union un-ion meeting last week. Following the business discussion led by President Venise Thueson, luncheon lunch-eon was served to fifteen by the hostesses, Mrs. Carson, Mrs. Faye Hayward and Mrs. Helen Clark. SEVENTIES PRESENT PROGRAM Seventies of the Third ward, under un-der the leadership of Horace Had-field Had-field presented the program during Sacrament services at the chapel Sunday evening. Byron Whipple, LaVell Jorgenson, Heber Hadfield and Odell Peck of the presidency of the quorum of Seventy spoke, and musical numbers were given by the ward Aaronic priesthood chorus, directed by Horace Hadfield. Nad-ine Nad-ine Jones accompanied the chorus. AVCTl'S CLI B MEMBERS HEAR TALK ON ART Members of the Olympian literary liter-ary club met at the home of Mrs. Glen Evans Thursday evening. Mrs' Glen Gordon of American Fork spoke to the group on "Art" and showed a number of her water colors, both flowers and scenes The club collect was read by Mrs, Robert Chatfield and refreshments were served. LIAHOMAN CLUB HEARS PLAY Mrs. Genevieve Beck of the BYU reviewed thhe three-act play, "The Glass Menagerie," before members of the Liahonian literary club, who met at the home of Mrs. George Strasburg Wednesday evening. Bri- ant Strasburg played two piano selections, and refreshments were served to 24. Mrs. Rex Holmstead was a special guest. AUCTUS CLUB WILL ATTEND BYU PLAY Members of the Auctus literary club are planning to attend the BYU play at Provo in a group this evening, in place of their reg ular meeting. The club met last AID (All 1 Prominent Alpine Stake Leader Dies The community was saddened whpn the word went forth Mon day afternoon of the death of. Harry Jerling, 48, prominent j TTinhland farmer and church leader. Mr. Jerling's occurred ati 3:30 p. m. in the LDS hospital in Salt Lake following a serious illness of several weeks. He had not been in good health the past few months. Death was due to hypertension. Carl Emil Harry jernng was born October 9, 1899, in Vingaker, Sweden, a son of Emil Alexander and Marie Pearson Jerling. The family emigrated to America when he was about seven. They came to Salt Lake where they spent two years, and then moved to Highland which has since been his home. He attended the Highland schnnl and graduated from the American Fork high school in 1918. He later attended the A. c. at Losran. Mr. Jerline was a very successful farmer and poultry- raiser. He took a prominent part in the affairs of his community. At the time of his death he was president of the Highland Conservation Con-servation District and was a director di-rector of the Lehi water board. His marriage to Miss Velma Wing of Lehi, took place in the Salt Lake temDle on September 22, 1926. To them two children were born, a son and a daughter. The son, Carl Wing Jerling, met his death when struck by a car, on the 14th wedding anniversary of his parents, September 22, 1940. Mr. Jerling has since his youth taken a most active part in the LDS church. He has held a number num-ber of responsible positions. Among the early ones were the offices' of superintendent of the Sunday School and the Y. M. M. I. A. He was a member of the Highland ward bishopric for several years before being made the bishop of that ward, which position he held for fifteen years. He was released in October of 1945. At the time of his death he was a high priest of thestake, 1 and was Alpine stake Genealogi-I Genealogi-I cal committee chairman. 1 hp is survived bv his wife and daughter, Rae Marie Jerling, of Highland.
