Show HILLTOP TIMES TIMES April 10, 2007 11 's Environmental Restoration Advisory Board seeks applicants H ill's Environmental Restoration Advisory Board, or RAB, is seeking applicants interested in representing the community of Hill AFB during important environmental cleanup decisions that affect the base and the surrounding communities. Base housing residents and workers are encouraged to apply for the position. Established in 1995, Hill's RAB was formed to increase public participation throughout the cleanup process and to provide a forum for community members and other stakeholders to have meaningful dialogue with Hill environmental officials. The RAB is a committee comprised of interested and concerned community members from the seven cities surround- ing the base, in addition to representatives from state, local and federal agencies. While the Air Force's interests are fully represented on the RAB, those who live and work at Hill have only recently had representation. Vern Heward, a base employee who began serving on the RAB in January 2007, resigned his position as the Hill AFB community representative, leaving an opening on the RAB. "Public participation is significantly important to the success of the cleanup program. We feel it is critical during the cleanup of contaminated areas of soil in Upper Area F base housing," said Mark Loucks, Environmental Restoration Branch chief. "We hope that by opening the position up to both base residents and workers, that we will see a lot of interest in the position." Those interested in applying can request an application by calling Carly Brown at 775-6760 or by picking up an application at the Environmental Management Division, upstairs in Building 5. Mailing and fax instructions are on the back of the application. The application is also available online at www.hillrab. org/memberapplication.aspx. Applications must be postmarked or received by midnight, April 18. The RAB will review the applications and will select a representative at the April 24 meeting. Applicants are encouraged to attend the meeting and will be allowed an opportunity to briefly introduce themselves. RAB meetings are open to the public and are held from 6:30 p.m. to MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU 9 p.m. at the Sunset City Offices, 200 W. 1300 North in Sunset Community RAB members serve without compensation for a two-year term and are expected to attend quarterly RAB meetings. Applicants should be prepared to devote at least four hours per month to their RAB responsibilities, if selected. RAB members will have the opportunity to review cleanup plans, budgets and program priorities, and comment on technical documents and reports. RAB members act as a liaison between the community and the Air Force, and as such, should be available to their constituents to exchange information and concerns. More information about the RAB is available, online at www.hillrab.org.
