Show AROUND HILI 10 TIMES March 27, 2008 Hiking, horseback riding trips open Paintball participants gear up For more information on any of the following trips, call Outdoor Recreation, 777-2225 Havasupai Falls, April 2-7, $260 per person: This trip takes place in some of the most beautiful and remote areas of the western Grand Canyon. Hike in by foot and stay three nights at the Havasupai Campground. Depart Hill AFB at 5 a.m., April 2, and travel to Supai, Ariz., where the group will stay the night. On Sunday, April 6, depart by helicopter giving another perspective of the canyon. Areas to day-hike include Supai Falls, Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls, and there is a museum to visit. The hike takes about 3 to 6 hours depending on the group. Participants need to bring money for meals on the way to Havasupai Falls and the trip back to Hill AFB. There is a store in the village and a cafe where supplies and meals can be purchased or you can bring food for three breakfasts, four lunches and three dinners. Trip includes transportation, camping fees, helicopter ride out and three meals. Children ages 10 and older are welcome if accompanied by their parents. A minimum of 10 participants is needed for this trip with a maximum of 25. There is a pre-trip meeting if you want to go on March 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the canyons where the Anasazi Indians once lived. Visit the remains of their dwellings, pottery, tools and art. Cost of the trip includes steak dinner, breakfast, backpack and sleeping pad if needed. Participants must bring food for three breakfasts, three dinners and three lunches. Backpacking tents can be rented from Outdoor Recreation. Sign up by April 1. A minimum of 6 participants is needed for this trip with a maximum of 10. Parade Rest Ranch and Yellowstone National Park, May 23-26, $255 per person which includes gratuity. A $100 deposit is due upon sign-up. Enjoy horseback riding through surrounding mountains and meadows. Fly fish right outside the cabin areas with a temporary permit (Montana Fishing License). You must provide your own fishing gear. The license . can be purchased on the way to Parade Rest Ranch. Trip includes a guided tour of Yellowstone, National Park. All meals feature homestyle cooking. Please sign up and pay two weeks prior to trip departure date. Due to the nature of this trip, no refunds will be given on the deposit. Children must be at least 8 years old to horseback ride. Corral rides for children younger than age 7 are available. There is a Hill AFB Paintball Association, annual membership fee, $35 per year to become a member. Desolation Canyon River Trip, May 14-19, $245 per person: Depart at 9 a.m., May 14, and stay overnight in Sand Wash. Enter the Green River at Sand Wash on the morning of May 15 and travel through Desolation Canyon until reaching Swaseys Rapid, 84 miles away. Camp along the river and enjoy sight-seeing. There are a number of historic buildings and Indian petroglyphs. In some areas, the canyon walls are deeper than the Grand Canyon and the rapids are from Class I to Class HI. Trip includes all meals on the river, transportation and staff. A list of items to bring will be given upon sign-up. All items must fit into one waterproof bag which will be provided by Outdoor Recreation. Only one bag per person. Please bring extra money for food on the way to and from Hill AFB. A minimum of 9 participants is needed for this trip with a maximum of 12. maximum weight limit of 225 pounds to ride the horses. A minimum of 8 participants to sign up is needed for this trip with a maximum of 20. Pheasant Hunting, Oct. 22-26, $650 per person: This is a four-night, three-day trip to Kennebec, S.D. Hunt on private ground with more than 5,000 acres. If you have a trained hunting dog, you may bring it; transportation is available in a trailer. All dogs are the responsibility of their'owners. Depart at 5 a.m. on Oct. 22, and return to Hill AFB on Oct. 26. Cost includes transportation, lodging, four breakfasts, three lunches and three dinners. A $250 deposit is due upon sign-up with the balance due by Sept. 22. Deposits will not be refunded after Oct. 8. Participants need to bring personal items, warm- and cold-weather clothing (unpredictable weather), nonresident hunting license ($110), bedding/sleeping bag, shotgun, shells, equipment to clean own birds, ice chest to bring birds home and extra money for some meals and incidentals.
