Show A losson to be loaned History is replete with many examples of great nations falling into ruin and obscurity ob-scurity as a result of internal chaos and the destruction of the educational structure. A nation is no better or greater than its educational system. The educational structure struc-ture is a reflection of a society. Too often schools become the scapegoat scape-goat for the ills of society. Americans believe educali"n will provide the way for any individual to achieve their goals and desires. This is rightfully so; and yet at the 5?rre time the same parent or citizen will condemn the educational structure for the failings of youth. Look around - if we find apathy in our schools we find apathy in our com-mun.ty. com-mun.ty. If we find disrespect for our laws in school we find the same disres pect within the community. If schools are failing, likewise the homes and community communi-ty are failing. Education is American, and belongs to all Americans. Success is a cooperative effort between the home and school. Constructive Con-structive criticism is productive and beneficial bene-ficial and needs to be a dialogue between school, home, and community in expressing express-ing concerns as well as accolades when conditions or results warrant. Each of us, whether teacher, student, parent or responsible citizen should be aware of the consequences of indifference. We should learn from the past and progress from our mistakes. Education Is notahap-hazard notahap-hazard endeavor but perhaps the one avenue our country has in charting survival. |
