Show WOULD RATHER GOJT ALONE For some time past there has been a good deal of ag'tatiou o-i or the proposal to establish in ( the state a central maiketingl agency for Utah fruit, and asi Cacho iiroduces a large iiiantits i of fruit each year, the irrowcr-i ' hae been asked to join in this state movement. Aeoidinir to the statement given out by Secretary Secre-tary Has Ttasmussen of the Cache Valley Frnit-firoweis Assn. however how-ever the Cache fruit growers pre fer to market their own fru't, through their own association, to employing an agent in the form of another association. In n let-1 ter to Mr. J E. Taylor or the State Horticultural Board. Secretary Sec-retary Bnsmussen has this to say: Dear Sir: " Yours of recent date regaid-j regaid-j ing State Organization, at hand I nnd contents noted. Beg to say that wo foe tho necessity of or- gani7iition and co-operation be-I be-I tween these producers of fruit in ' Utali, but after all, tho practical I thing to consider is whether we 1 can reali70 more for our ship-'"ciiIh ship-'"ciiIh bv marketing them as a Countv Ass'n, or through a distributing dis-tributing agent, there aiv twoi things to consider carefully, first efficieivy. and second, economy without seorificing efficiency Now. we understand that some of the distributing agencies claim to have private representatives .in eveiy strategic receiving market, and all this they claim puts them in a position to bettei take care of the interests of their elients. Investigation seems to piovo that oven the largest distributors dis-tributors have but two or three at the outsido of such representatives, representa-tives, but are represented by brokers bro-kers who would be just as pleas-ed pleas-ed to represent tho Cache Fruit (Continued on page four.) WOULD BATHER GO IT ALONE (Continued from nairc omO Growers Ass'n. as such Ass'n. and not as a part of a distributing distribut-ing agency- And such agents as these distributing agencies have, we feel sure, would be glad to work for us, if given a chance, upon the same basis, and further, furth-er, it stands to reason that it is going to -cost us more to market through a selling agent than to deal direct with brokers ourselves our-selves when, in the end, the distributing dis-tributing agency will merely have our shipments handled by the broker or Coin. Merchant, the same as though we consigned to the broker or Com. Merchant ourselves without, the intervention interven-tion of the selling agency. At the same time, we believe we will get better treatment when we unknown un-known as Cache Fruit Growers. Ass'nan independent shipping Ass'n, which is ready for otters from any broker or com. merchant merch-ant who wishes to do business with us. When these distributing agencies speak of their branch offices, their salaried representatives, representa-tives, they merely refer to a bunch of brokers with which they hae made .ncrnngeiiicnts to rep-I rep-I resent them in the different mark-I mark-I ets. just the same is we. or any othe reliable shipper of the commodities com-modities which we handle, could iii'iiiuuu for representation, What is the use of paying anything for the general management of a branch of brokers. Now as to "glutted" markets we fed that the man is. not bom yet who ih big cuougt, broad enough, en-ough, well enough posted, who can distribute fruit and produce, in a way that will prevent "glutted" "glut-ted" markets, if we controlled e.-r apple that grows in the northwest, nor other fruit because if. for instance", oranges are extremely ex-tremely low and apples are high the consumers, will eat more oranges or-anges and less apples and vice versa. S( far we have had excellent any Md. m'knl IliliT S m-P results shipping direct without any distributors and feel we are on the right 1 1 nek. only we feel some kind of co-operation for the d iVt-iint ass'n ami shippers ought to !- inaugurated Yours ei trul,.
