But the need was there, and a group of enterprising enterpris-ing area residents banded together to form the small corporation which is now-becoming now-becoming well-known to those who like to travel in the fascinating Needles. The resort is managed by pilot Dick Smith and he is the authorized dealer for White Mietal Detectors. Their years of experience enable them to provide, not only the services required re-quired by the visiting public, pub-lic, but the answers to many ma-ny questions people have about the Needles area. Involved in the operation :is a large service station providing gasoline, oil and automotive services, a restaurant res-taurant which serves sandwiches sand-wiches and fountain specialties; speci-alties; and a store, which handles a surprising inventory inven-tory of food and camping supplies, ice and propane. Also available at the -resort, which is almost completely com-pletely surrounded by the National Park, is a trailer campground with sewer connections and electric power. The resort has a fleet of four wheel drive vehicles' for rent to those who wish to drive a passenger car that far, and then transfer to a rental rough country vehicle for more extensive juants to Chesler Park, An-igel An-igel Arch, and other principals prin-cipals of the Park. Located adjacent to the resort is a well-maintained air strip, which is used by a number of persons who ifly their own planes into the park and then rent vehicles ve-hicles for more detailed ground trips. Scenic flights are available at that location loca-tion also, with Canyonlands Aviation, and arrangements for the flights, which begin be-gin at ?4.95 per person, can be made right at Canyonlands Can-yonlands Resort. The owners and operators operat-ors of Canyonlands Resort have attempted to pattern their development in keeping keep-ing with the strict aims of scenic preservation followed follow-ed by the National Park Service. Canyonlands Resort is located just off the entrance road to the Needles Section of Canyonlands; about two miles from the ranger station sta-tion and four miles from the NPS campground at Squaw Park. Communications with the Resort can be handled over the telephone system via a mobile installation there. The mobile number to call is JL 7-1176. It's ony an hour's drive from Moab, and is a must stop for visitors visi-tors to the Needles Section. |
