Show I BEN LOMOND BEACON, Feb. 22. 1979. Page 3 Miss Adams gets Valentines surprise at school Cupboard by Janie was a surprise to at Plain City Elementary. ALL OF THIS Lori, We recently made a little fourteen mile move, and as we were taking our fourth 16 foot truck load, I began to marvel at our pioneer forefathers. Just think, these magnificent settlers bundled six kids, all of their seed, gardening implements, a gun and ammunition, everything they needed to tame a wilderness into one, that is ONE covered wagon. Somehow they traveled thousands of miles, a journey that lasted several months and managed! We stopped unloading and making trips about six that evening. ! couldnt prepare supper as my pans were still at the old house. As you well know, this necessitated a trip to the nearby hamburger joint. I wanted to wash a load, but the washer wasnt connected and my detergent lay at the old homestead. Talk about family togetherness and happiness; we were all snarling at one another and each of us felt terribly put upon. The three girls were to share a bedroom much larger than an ordinary settler's cabin. They appeared to be in actual pain. A trundle bed and one twin bed in one enromous room! Thats really roughing it. I was tempted to hand them each a thin, woolen blanket and let them make a shelter in the six inch snow fall and perhaps cook some wheat over a flickering fire, but kindness prevailed. Kindness and the fear that someone would turn me in to the Family Protective Services. About eight, we wearily crept upstairs to our interspring mattresses, and dropped off into exhausted slumber. I like to think of myself as a fairly self sufficient woman. I am self sufficient too&when I have my dishwasher, garbage disposer, automatic washer and dryer, my convenience foods and our blow comb. I feel that I'm roughing it without my garbage compactor. We STILL have our food supply to move. I hesitate to tell you, but several years ago in a panic when I knew that tough times were on their way, 1 purchased a ton of wheat. Thats right, a ton. i imagine that this will last us a long time and for generations well be prepared for famine. Thus far, weve used less than two quarts as a hot cereal. None of us enjoys whole wheat bread as it is not light and airy enough, and were rarely in the mood for hot wheat cereal. When Ray has to move this wheat, it will no doubt put a serious strain on our relationship. My only salvation will lie in that I'm the mother of his five children. alibi-inI can just see my for me with all my kin that have gone beyond. She probably said.
