Show Annual Report of the Spanish Fork Volunteer Hose Fire Co No1 for the year 1908 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of Spanish Fork City Gentlemen We take pleaure in presenting eating the first annual report of the Spanish Fork Volunteer Hose Fire Co No1 In pursuance to a call issued by Mayor J A Martcll number of citizens citi-zens met in the city hall May 12 1008 for the purpose of organizing a fire department de-partment after several had expressed hcmsclves favorable toward the cause It was decided to organize a company of twenty men and the following were chosen D E Robertson Ralph Higginson Alfred B Warner John O Robertson Wm Briggs Clayton Beck rlyrum Patterson Abel Beck C W Booth Harry Davis Geo II Ludlow James Davis Wm Moore Gesli Budverson Thomas Moore Isaac Briggs Ephraim Rowe Francis Miller David R Boyack Delbert Chappel And from the above members the following owing l officers were chosen ChiefC W Booth First AssistantClayton Beck Second AssistantGeorge HLudlow Secretary and TreasurerDavid R Boyack The Constitution and ByLaws were adopted by the company and the following l fol-lowing additional officers were chosen Assistant Secretary E Robertson Robert-son StuartWm Briggs The company meets every first and third Wednesday of the month for instructions in-structions and during the summer season sea-son every Thursday evening is given for practice the boys have been very energetic in their meetings and practice prac-tice They desire to make themselves proficient for the work of the department I depart-ment We have been called out to three fires since our organization the first was on June 12th in John T Morgans stack yard at 430 pm a quick run was made by the department and very little damage was done On Tuesday August 25 1908 an alarm was given at 1230 noon Wm I Petersons house being on fire owing to not having sufficient hose we were unable to do very much but the boys worked faithfully to save what they could the house was burnt to the ground The house and furniture was valued at 1000 with 75000 insurance The third fire was on December 14th 1908 when the alarm was given at 230 p m from the Martell Mercantile Co The damage to the roof was 2000 Since our organization Isaac Briggs and Wm Moore have resigned and J H Thomas and Carl Corbett have been selected in their places Several of our jrembers have been away at work and are excused from attending our meetings meet-ings While absent we trust by the labors of the company that in the future fut-ure we will be able to meet with every condition that requires our services We desire to thank the Mayor and City Council for their aid and support that they have given us in the past Respectfully submitted lor your consideration con-sideration C W BOOTH Chief D R BOYACK Secy December 31 108 |
