Show Seek Advancement , Solution The matter of "mixing classes", and other means of meeting thej question of elementary school children advancing In accordance accord-ance with their ability regardless regard-less of age, was discussed at the meeting of the Iron County Board of Education Monday by Miss Mary McMillan, curriculum director di-rector for the school district. Miss McMillan reported on the results of the correlation of classes class-es on an age and ability level, In order that students may ad vance in accordance with their ability, rather than to hold back the "faster" students or to rush; too rapidly the "slower" members mem-bers of the class. She also reported re-ported on a plan of mixing class-es class-es adopted as a means of over- coming crowded conditions by moving the more advanced students stu-dents to higher classes. The policy pol-icy Is a definite trend In education educa-tion that is meeting with very encouraging sucess, she reported. Deer Hunt Policy The board rrembers also considered con-sidered the adoption of a definite defin-ite policy for the annual deer season. The number of absent students during the deer hunting season has been Increasing at a tremendous rate and since It costs the school district in the school equalization fund $1 a day for each student absent it has been determined that some definite policy should be established estab-lished and the board is now conducting con-ducting a study of the matter. This year, school was held from 8 a. m. to 11 p. m., and then dismissed for the remainder of the day so that students attended full school time yet were dismissed dis-missed early enough to participate partic-ipate in the hunt activities. This worked very satisfactorily and some such plan will probably be adopted on a permanent basis. The local district does not receive money from the equalization equali-zation fund, but instead contributes contri-butes a considerable amount to the fund for use in other districts. dis-tricts. However, student absence results In a greater payment to the fund by the local district, while In other districts It results in a reduction in the amount received. re-ceived.
