Show TaXi Advertltpmt'nt Knighfc Appeals o Voters The lark of any organized activity ac-tivity or campaign by the people of Parowan concerning the County Coun-ty Seat Issue, may have been in-rpreted in-rpreted by many as an Indication Indica-tion that il doesn't matter to the people of Parowan whether the County Seat Is moved or not. .Such however Is not the case. Parowan not only wants the County Seat but needs it badly to maintain our economy, and our social and cultural well being. be-ing. Up until this time no definite defin-ite action has been taken because be-cause we fully desired to maintain main-tain the cooperative spirit and harmony that nas gradually Ibven built up throughout t lie county over the past 20 years. Moreover we felt that the initiative init-iative petition to move the County Coun-ty Seat was merely the action of a few and not reflective of the thinking of the citiens of t ho , ounty as a whole. In order to jjain their purpose we felt badly j that some members of the pet i - j tlon committee resorted to un-i Idnd tactics, slandering some ofj thp county officials who were, doing the things they are under oath to do, to protect our rights us citizens. However now that the petition has been filed and the question placed on the ballot, we invite ou to examine the facts so that you can make an honest decision as to whether the County Seat should be moved or not. First, those proposing the move state that it should be done for efficiency of government and convenience to the public. Con-crrninu Con-crrninu efficiency of government, "-.ve can say without fear of contradiction con-tradiction that the county offi- rs hnuseri In tho enurthntiso in Tarowan are among the most efficient ef-ficient in the state. This may be verified by examination of official offi-cial audit reports. Many have laud'jd the three officers housed In the Iron County Courthouse for the speed and efficiency with which their work is handled. May we answer the second item with this question? "How many of you have had occasion to visit the County Courthouse in . COOL, MAN? ROOT DEER Ibis Refreshing Drink Served at FROSTOP DRIVE-IN tSCO N. Main. Cedar City. Ut Car Service MEN FRY COOKS past years? I think we can safely say that 93 out of 100 of you have not. On the other hand on any given day of the week if you will look about you on the streets of Cedar City you will observe quite a number of citizens of Parowan and the northern part of the county who are in Cedar City for the purpose of' visiting the Iron County Hospital, visiting visit-ing Iron County School District offiqe, consulting one of our County Officials who maintain offices in Cedar City, or patronizing patron-izing the Merchants of Cedar City. As near as we can ascertain the residents of the Northern end of Iron County last year spent in the neighborhood of $800,000 with the business houses of Cedar Ce-dar City. If however you were one of the five who had business at the Courthouse, you found that it took only 25 minutes to drive thcrc Perhaps you had the opportunity to become acquainted acquaint-ed and visit with some of our fine Parowan people thereby building up better county-wide relationship, or you may have availed yourself of the opportun-ty opportun-ty to stop in some of our Parowan Paro-wan stores. All in all, I don't think that you'd regret making the trip. Perhaps it Is the prestige that this move would give to Cedar City. If the center of population should be also the center of government, gov-ernment, why then isn't New York City the proper capital of the United States, Los Angeles the capital of California, Chicago Chica-go the capital of Illinois, and so on. I'm afraid. thr.t this is merely ly an Important point to a very small few. The economy of such a move poses still another question. What would Cedar gain? and what would Parowan lose? At present of the 96 Iron County employees, Cdar City has 77, Parowan 15, Peryl 1. Kanarra-vllle Kanarra-vllle 1, Midvalley 2. To add Paro-wan's Paro-wan's few to Cedar City's over all payroll would be just a drop in the bucket, but to take it out of Parowan's total would be disastrous di-sastrous to Parowan's economy. The County Courthouse in Parowan Paro-wan affeefs the economy of other oth-er businesses. It would take away from us people who hold important positions In our civic organizations and our churches, our social activities would suffer greatly. On the other hand Cedar City is very fortunate already to have so many capable clivc minded persons to aid In the community growth. Still another factor from the economic standpoint Is that of huild'.rifcJ. We have been informed inform-ed that the Iron County Courthouse Court-house is among the best in the state. It has been rumored that the Iron County Courthouse has been condemned. This rumor Is entirely false. now should the center of government gov-ernment be moved to Cedar City, the expense t the county to provide pro-vide a suitable building would be encountered. Some may tell you that Hotel El Escalante would he used tor the purpose. But the fact still remains that the county would have to buy it and at the same time, let a per- vfetCity ) EV TALCOTT Manager Happy Fcmlly Loans ILY LOAN service to Cede Ce-de quick, confidential, dar City, pleasant way to get mon- cy when you need it is Personal loans up to a service of Securities $1400 or more, with as Acceptance Corporation, much as 24 months to re-Securities re-Securities Acceptance pay. Conservatively speaking speak-ing it would cost the taxpayers 'of Iron County in the neighbor-hoom neighbor-hoom of 750 thousand to a million mil-lion dollars to acquire new quarters quar-ters for the Iron County offices. 'At Iron County's present assess-Jed assess-Jed valuation a one mill tax levy will yield around $50,000. At this rate you can figure for yourselves your-selves what the increase in your taxes would be. Granted that the mines and utilities pay a large tax in Iron County, but remem-. remem-. ber that for every mill to the mines and utilities your taxes are raised a mill also. In the final analysis wc feel that there is really no reason for I any move. That this action Is be-ting be-ting taken to satisfy the personal pride of a very few individuals, ! and is Indeed not the true feeling feel-ing of the county as a whole. .Don't bo rushed into an unwise and unfair decision by the words jand action of a certain few. We l citizens of Parowan sincerely ' r"pe that Iron County can continue con-tinue to cooperatively progress and prosper. We ask you to examine the facts and find within yourself the answer as to the proper thing to do. We hope you'll see fit to vote NO on the County Seat proposition. Now may I sentimentalize some. Parowan Is the mother community for this entire southwestern south-western area. From Parowan colonizing col-onizing parties have gone out to all of southern Utah, eastern Arizona, San Luis Valley In Colorado, Col-orado, Big Horn Basin in Wyoming, Wyom-ing, areas In southern Nevada. The city of San Bernardino, Cal. was colonized from Parowan. I During this entire period Parowan Par-owan has been the County Seat of Iron County. Let's not rob her now of the dignity and stability she so rightly deserves. HOWARD KNIGHT i Smokey Says:' CARELESSNESS IS 5 1 VffCOSTLY!
