Show JOl'THEHS PRODUCTS. The correspondence of our friend "J," from St. George, in the present number, again suggests points relative to the products raised in Southern Utah. Viniculture is rapidly growing ia importance, and the quality of wine this season is much superior to that of previous years, while an increased quantity has been made. Sweet-potatoes, rice, bene and yams, as well as raisins, cotton and other products of warm climates are successfully grown. We have seen some of this season's raisins, dried in the southern settlements, settle-ments, which will compare favorably with any imported. The people of this part of the Territory Terri-tory have a duty to perform in connection connec-tion with these facts ; and that is to purchase every dollar's worth of such products that the south can ?pare. Strenuous efforts have been made for years to build up settlements there, and southern Utah before a great while will be the most important and most desirable portion of the Territory. When the Southern Pacific Railroad in linished, and the Utah Centra! is ruu down to intersect it. Southern Utah will be able to chooe its own market, just as Suit Lake can do to-dny unhampered unham-pered by the difficulties in teaming over 1'irm rtrendiei of plains, mountains moun-tains and dcens. If freight j is somewhat high between St. George and Salt Lake City now, the money paid for it remains in the Territory, and this is a ,usideration that should not be lost sight of in making calculations calcula-tions on the matter. We urge upon the people of this section, and particularly particu-larly business men, to cultivate Southern South-ern Utah, to aid it in even' practicable practica-ble way; and let the people there, who have struggled through years of wc-ary toil, feel that we are warmly interested in their success |
