Haunted River Walk Every Fri, Sat & Mon in October $5 per person $20 per family Gunnison City's 2011 facade initiative is well underway. To this point 17 businesses have signed up to participate in the program. The program offers a 50% matching grant, up to 53000 for businesses willing to improve their facades. The grant comes 25% from the county and 25% from the city. As part of their initiative, businesses are also offered a free private consultation with Don Hartley, the Utah State Historical architect. Run to Remember 5K held by EMILY COX The second annual Run to Remember 5K race, sponsored by Gunnison Home Health and Hospice, was held this past Saturday October 1st in Gunnison. It was a beautiful morning for the 5K walk/run. 41 participants signed up to race, with many of the runners pushing strollers. Prior to the race 51 balloons were released in honor of the Hospice patients who have passed on since last October. The Hospice and Home Health employees and volunteers were privileged to help them on their journey home and they wanted to hold this fundraiser to continue to help their families heal and honor them. All proceeds from the race will go towards memorials for the families this winter. The winners of the 5K were first place, Gabe Howell, 16, of Manti with a very impressive time of 17:51. Second place went to Ryan Campbell of Logan, with a time of 20:10 and 3rd place went to Joseph Howell, 13 Manti, his time was 20:23. Prizes were given to the winners and participants. Sponsors include Rasmussen Ace Hardware in Gunnison, Candies on Main of Manti, Subway of Gunnison, T & R Sports of Ephraim, Coach B's Lotsa Motsa of Gunnison, and Therapy West. Three very impressive walkers all over the age of 80 also completed the walk: Kirsten Olsen, Iris Neill and Betty Oliver. The Scott and Leslie Johnson family of Sterling, along with the members of the Hess family both walked to honor their loved ones who have passed on this year. 2 The Haunted Tamarack Trai put on by the Gunnison Valley ref mod: Businessmen, opened this past Monday evening. It has two trails, one for young . *444_ children that is not scary, and one for older children and adults that is sure to give lots of chills and thrills. It will be open on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays throughout the month of October from 7 until 10 p.m. The proceeds from the event go to run the programs the businessmen provide such as the free Christmas movie in December. |
