Show CDBG Grants Awarded In Cannonville And Escalante Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) totaling $7.5 million have been awarded to communities com-munities throughout Utah for local improvement projects. The CDBG program in the Utah Division of Community Development Develop-ment has disbursed the funds from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development to the state's seven regional Associations of Governments, which in turn award grants to communties for qualified projects. They include the operation opera-tion of human-service agencies, the purchase and rehabilitation of homes for low and moderate-income residents, planning and construction of community buildings, various economic-development initiatives, and numerous water, sewer, and sidewalk upgrades. The Utah CDBG program provides pro-vides grants to cities and towns with populations of less than 50,000 and counties fewer than 200,000 people. Counties with populations (Davis, for example) of more than 200,000 are still eligible if cities within their boundaries of at least 50,000 are deducted from the county population bringing it below 200,000. The purpose of the program is "to assist in developing viable urban communities by providing pro-viding decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income. in-come. Two grants were awarded in Garfield Gar-field County. Cannonville town was awarded $150,000 for construction construc-tion of a new community center and Escalante was awarded $129,000 for the rehabilitation of the senior citizens citi-zens center. |
