Show Heritage Highway Successes Cited KANAB President of Utah Heritage Products Alliance Susan Holt, took the opportunity at the Annual Membership Meeting in Kanab Mar. 30 to highlight the accomplishments ac-complishments of that group these past two years. She noted the Senate Bill 123 sponsored by Senator Leonard Blackham which appropriated $200,000 to support Utah Heritage Product Alliance activities during the summers before and after the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Also, an award of $20,000 was received from the United States De-. De-. partment of Commerce to support development of the Utah Heritage Product Alliance. The first advertisement adver-tisement generated hundreds of responses re-sponses that are being shared with local travel offices. The Utah Heritage Products Alliance Al-liance will be a major sponsor of the National Tour Association Conference Con-ference in Salt Lake City on Nov. 10-15. Simmons Media Group, including includ-ing FM100 and KDYL, has agreed to contribute 112 Utah Heritage Highway promotional announcements, announce-ments, on-air giveaways and additional addi-tional services valued at $22,420. Governor Michael Leavitt will sign a proclamation in his office on April 18 proclaiming the period from Memorial Day through the end of June as Utah Heritage Highway High-way Month. Lieutenant Governor Olene Walker will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Utah Heritage Heri-tage Highway, tentatively on the Friday before Memorial Day at a site yet to be determined. Bridget Fare from the Utah Department De-partment of Community and Economic Eco-nomic Development's Communications Communica-tions Office has been successful in attracting feature articles about the Utah Heritage Highway in AAA's Via Magazine, the Craft's Report Magazine and Country Sampler Magazine, as well as many Utah newspapers, radio and television features and interviews. The Utah Heritage Products Alliance Al-liance is offering 10-15 small grants to support community-based heritage events along US Highway 89. UHPA's Member Education Committee is exploring the feasibility feasi-bility of a Utah Heritage Institute that would offer members classes to upgrade their artisan and business skills. UHPA is currently advertising for a part-time executive director to replace Ed Meyer whose term as a loaned executive from the Department Depart-ment of Community and Economic Development will expire June 30. |
