Show Gut 9 oheai& By STEViJ WILLIAMS Looks pretty bare down on South Main, where workmen are ripping out the old sheet-iron sheet-iron building and getting ready to build the new post office building. And up around the bank corner, it's lookin pretty encouraging, with footings in and work started on the founda-tion founda-tion for the new bank building. Then around on the ';back .street," which is really Mil-- Mil-- ford's front yard so far as rail road travelers are concerned, the Jaycee (?) sidewalk-gutter project is coming along nicely. This week a Union Pacific engineering crew set the grade stakes, and U P workmen began pouring concrete after the city grader put down most of the ditch excavation. They say Mayor Kizer put in a pretty rugged shift with a shovel and wheelbarrow. They shouldn't expect a conductor to work like that they ain't used to it. And the Mountain States boys got into the act (everyone was having fun!) when Manager Viekcrs and Clint Smith labored far, tar into Wednesday night repairing a cable that had been damaged in the excavation work. Now with North Main resurfaced, resur-faced, and the airport runway just about completed, and the road work out west progressing progress-ing (we understand Bill is top cat-skinner and Liz is 'feeding the guys so well they're all getting so fat they have to squeeze under the steering wheel); and TV getting almost reading to start showing off, and two new mining ventures ready to pop, who wants to move to Bountiful? Milford's a SWELL place to live! ! That is, if you pay your water bill. Seems the city council has spent so much on improvements this year, they're running short of cash, and either have to "go see Joe" or insist that water users pay up their back bills. Starting Sept. 20 (Friday of next week) anyone who is 90 days delinquent in their water bill won't be able to take any more baths (at home) and they'll have to borrow coffee water from the neighbors. Their water will be shut off until the account is brought up to date. There's been a little delay in the TV installation for Milford, according to T. Collins (TV) Jackson, president of the Sevier TV Company. The town is wired, and the lead-in cable was installed, but they had to re-route the cable over a new route, erecting their own new poles, because of interference in-terference along the old route. It won't be long now, though, till the local fans will be watching watch-ing Channel Five offerings. The post office guys (and gal) are really proud of the new ballpoint pens Uncle Sam has issued them, to replace the famous fa-mous stub that has' plagued postcard writers for scores of years. You're all invited to spend 2c for a post card and try out the new pens they really work. |
