Show CLIFTON held from the first ward meeting house this afternoon at 2 this afternoon the funeral services over the remains of clifton S browning Brow nine who died wednesday morning were held from the first ward meeting bouse all day there were crowds of friends passing through the room at the residence in which the remains lay taking a last look at the face of one whom they loved at the remains were placed in a dearee and were followed to the meeting house by a large concourse services with a song by the choir followed by prayer by bishop green taylor the choir sang 1 I know that my redeemer lives and prest C F middleton bishop elder joseph parry bishop ensign D H peery and many others testified to the grandeur and nobility of the character and life of the departed friend interment was had in the city cemetery to which place a funeral cortege of great length hollowed loll owed the remains clifton S browning was born sept in babner county tennessee and was a eon of the late jas G browning and mary ann neel browning he came to utah in 1850 and settled in he wae elected sheriff of weber county in 1851 the first ever elected in 1854 he married rachael J middleton Midd lelon sister of C F middleton in 1850 he wept to salmon river on a mission and remained until the mission was abandoned in 1858 he served as a police officer for a number of years and was also a lieutenant in one of the military organizations ol 01 the state besides doing considerable service in indian troubles and exploring expeditions he has followed farming and teaming tor a livelihood all bia life and bad amassed a fair competence he was one of the strongest in the faith as a member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints was one of the first members of the thirty eighth quorum of seventies the first organized in weber county and at he time of bis death held the office of high priest was a prodding teacher of the ward in which lie lived and had recently been selected as a member of the high council of the weber stake since the death offia wife which occurred dec 26 1890 he has spent a great deal of his time visiting the sick and comforting those in distress among all bis relatives and friends weber county he was known as uncle clif and was a great favorite with all he was the first man whom prest C F middleton met when became to and be became closer and more intimately acquainted with him later marrying hie sister his work is done and when the time came or him to lay down the work of this life be was ready tor the call his last sickness ana of snort duration and bis end was pain many are the teara which wilt be abed over aba bier of clifton S browning he was the father of ten children seven ol 01 whom are living namely abos E browning president of the city council mrs chauncey gale mrs anna A II errick wife of N A herrick minnie and mary browning and frank and oscar |
