Show r WEEKLY REFLEX DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL. SEPTEMBER 20. 1979 Tea Davis County Men Seals Energy Grant LAYTON Two Layton men who say they have developed a process that will produce alcohol in commercial quantities at a reasonable price have made a bid to get a $53,000 grant to see if the Garland Sugar Refinery in Box Elder County can be converted to the production of alcohol. ROBERT HELBER, Energies, Inc., and his partner, Robert R. Neff, vice president, approached the Box Elder president of R&R County Commission to investigate the possibility of using the sugar plant for a second plant. They said they are in the process of building a plant in St. George. The $53,000 grant is available by the county (Box Elder) for use by the Bear River Association of Governments to study and help alleviate the impact caused by the closing of the Utah and Idaho Sugar Plant in Garland. SO FAR, according to the County Commission there, no one is sure what the money will be used for. Mr. Helber said his companys method of making alcohol requires the use of sugar beets, thus helping the economy of the county where sugar beet growing has dwindled in recent years. HE NOTED that the grant would not be enough to put the plant into operation, but that his company is willing to invest substantially into the project Addresses For 1980 Census counties to prepare the address lists.
