Not for very long because you might come up with some. But just off the top of your hat, the answer seems to be There isn't any. y Those suckers that are consumed in the better part of five minutes now cost 2 cents. Outrageous! Some companies have softened the blow by wrapping their product in cellophane paper. Way back when I was a youngster those suckers used to seem huge. Either theyve shrunk or my mouth has grown. I think its the latter. Times were youd go into the store with your offspring and in order to keep them quiet theyd buy a ball of gum that looked like gum rather than a pee-we- e marble and theyd be satisfied. Nowadays since the kids know they don't get enough treat off of one candy bar they head to the ice cream counter. There they find much more for their money and its better for them. The other day, as an experiment, I purchased some $1 worth of candy. In the three tiny items I bought was a tube of powdered candy. I chewed off the end, soaking and melting the paper in the process. I tipped it to my mouth and nothing came out because the soggy paper had twisted together. the Therefore, I began paper. Since the tube was almost full, not having eaten any, the tiny sugary particles began falling out. I quickly put the tube in my mouth promptly soaking the end of it. And the only way to meet this requirement is to build new generating plants. That means youd need money... lots of it. Utah Power would like to talk to you about where they get the money to build needed plants. While customer revenues pay for operation and maintenance of the companys facilities and a return on invested money, most of the money for new power plants comes from selling stocks and bonds to investors. And these investors expect a reasonable profit on their investment. That means Utah Power must run an efficient, profitable operation so it can attract the investor money it needs to meet future power demands. You see, in just ten yearn the demand for electric power has doubled in Utah Powers service area. And, if Utah Power is to meet the level of demands estimated for 1978, they will need close to a billion dollars for new plant construction. And, since youre a customer, you have a right to know that the money to build the new plants Utah Power & Light customers will need comes from investors, not rate payers, and that investors expect a reasonable profit on their investment. |
