The Cyprus Pirates proved to any doubters that they are for real as they overpowered the Wolverines to earn a 18-- win. 8 The win improved Cyprus record to 0 while a very talented Hunter squad fell to 0-After a slow first quarter that was hampered by high winds, the Pirates put the first points on the board in the second quarter when they blocked a Hunter punt and recovered the ball on the Hunter line. With 6:01 remaining in the first half Curtis Ash punched the ball into the endzcne for the Pirates first score. Both teams struggled because of penalties with Cyprus having a TD called back because of a illegal 3-- 3. 20-ya- rd procedure penalty and Hunter having several drives stalled because of the yellow flag. The Pirates cruised into the locker room holding a slim 6-- 0 lead. In the third quarter Gary Nye booted a field goal to 42-ya- rd give Cyprus a 9-- lead while 0 Hunter fought back on a TD strike from quarterback Tarell 28-ya- Richards to Helm Chase and a two point conversion by the speedy quarterback.
