Show TV 2 - The Dil Herald. I'rmo. I uh Sunday. January 24. WH Nancy Travis finds romance with a Last Love' in new ABC movie By Jay Bobbin, Tribune Media Services She had an "Almost Perfect" life in a comedy series, and she has another in a new drama. of "My Nancy Travis is the star and Last Love," ABC's Monday movie (9 p.m. L:T) in which she plays a lawyer and single parent. That woman is happy personally and professionally, until she learns she must wage a new battle against the cancer that was in remission. Having kept her illness a secret from most of her loved ones, she has to. deal with their reactions and the concerns of her young daughter (Jamie Rence Smith), with whom she moves to California. There, Travis' character finds romance with a younger, carefree surfer (Scott Bairstow, of "Party of Five") who gets a big lesson in responsibility once he discovers her condition. Travis says she was drawn to "My Last Love" by "the opportunity for me to bring some humor to such a serious situation. I don't know whether I drink too much caffeine or I'm just hyper in general, but I like to make people laugh. I found it interesting to make jokes on the set, then go right into a (highly emotional) soene." A big plus, Travis maintains, was the presence Bairstow. "We were really lucky to have of y him. It's hard to find somebody in that age who's as good as he is. The trick to that part is to have somebody who you could believe would (seem wiser than his years) and, at the same time, would be the younger man this woman falls for. We definitely needed somebody with a certain co-st- ar caie-gor- maturity." Grateful that no one close to her has had cancer, Travis admits, "It scared me a bit to go and explore that. I knew nothing about it, but through my research and just talking to people, realized that a lot is being done to help people who have cancer. That's especially true if there's early detection. Advances are being made, but not enough. 1 Nancy Travis The reality is that a lot of people are still dying of cancer. "I think there are many stages that someone disease goes through. For with a this character, the lesson is that when you realize the life you have is a quantitative amount, you want to live it to the fullest." The title "My Last Love" was added to the movie only a few weeks ago. Before that, it was known as "To Live For," but Travis doesn't feel the new name gives away too much. "Titles are tricky things," she reflects. "After all, I'm the actress who was in 'So I Married an Axe Murderer.' I do think this title is sort of apropos, though. It's simple without being right on the nose. The movie is also very romantic, and the name reflects that." wmmmwwwwmwmmwwm9ww9WBwwwv99 FREE Windshield !
