The debate threatening to be protracted, pro-tracted, the committee rose for the purpose of limiting the debate on the oth section. The debate was then limited to one hour, and the house again resolved itself into committee of tho whole. . The appointed time having expired , tho debate on the motion to strike j out the fifth section closed and a vote was taken, resulting in the defeat of the motion yeas 95, nays, 103. The sixth and last section, exempting merchandise on ship and bound to i the United State3 on the 10th of Feb- f ruary, and such merchandise in any t public store at the date of the passage t of the act from duty, was passed, and a the bill was then read. Foot moved to strike out the sec- r i turn, and after sonio debate the com- t mittee rose without having reached a I conclusion.
