Show j T I 1 jJ THAT HEBREW DIVISION t X i A ouuger Member 1 Version Question of Ritual But tie Best Social Feelings Prevail As in everything else there aro always two sides to a story While Mr Isador Morris gives the Tribune some correct ideas in regard to the division of the congregation con-gregation there are a few facts which will bear correction The reformed congregation congrega-tion admit that they wish to change tho mode of service conforming mOre to the spirit and advance of the Nineteenth Century Cen-tury What answered for our forefathers 2000 years ago will not do today Everything else is progressing j why should not a religious ritual change I jt is a mark of respect to take the hat off for any parson why should the head be kept covered in a place of worship Even the staunchest orthodox Hebrew will concede that tho mode of worship has been changed since Mose established the ritual j and if a change took place 1000 years after Moses existed why cannot can-not another change he made in another 2000 years That tho young Israelites outvoted the radical part of tho congregation is conceded con-ceded but with these young voted such members as Auerbaclis Siegels Bam hergor Cohus Simons Kahns and many others who arc as influential and who paid as much money toward the building of the Synagogue as any of our Hebrew citizens and if there are any older residents resi-dents in this city than the names abovementioned above-mentioned all of which belong to the refoim d congregation would like fo know 1 i Aside from this difference us regards the ritual the best of social feelings prevail pre-vail between the members of the two parties and at almost any time we may learn of both being again united by a few concessions being made on tho part of either faction |
