Show ANOTHER OGDEN SUICIDE james L moyer ends his life with poison early friday morning at ogden james L moyer took a dose of morphine with suicidal intent nothing was suspected until about four when a doctor was sent for no physician was found for some time but dr EL J powers was finally acquainted quain ted with the facts and repaired to the place immediately ho did all in his power to save him ant in vain the victim dying about six T he was a cabinet maker by trade but had not worked at his profession since his arrival from the east some years ago his wife died november ath 1887 ho leaves three children aged respectively 18 months 4 and 7 years it was understood that a brother had sent him some money from pennsylvania to help him back east frank greenwell had gone with him to the bank to identify him mover also bought provisions for his journey and was to have left yesterday morning it was thought that he got on a spree lost the money and in despair took his life though later evidences showed he did not receive the money as the bank had been instructed to buy his ticket east money had been sent him before about 90 some little time previous to his cifes death while living at drivers farm near collingston collinston Col linston but he did not use the money lor the purpose that it was given him he lived in a little tumble down shanty where since the death of his wife no one in particular had attended to the house or the children the latter lived in filth and during last january the stench in the house is said to have been unbearable from evidences obtained it would appear that the children had even been in the habit of eating raw meat the family certainly had been in a most destitute and fearful condition friday evening at coroner GL W flarkin was notified by dr powers of the occurrence and at once summoned T H ballantyne moroni poulter and charles lind they proceeded to the house where the body lay to hold the inquest the oldest boy otho aged seven testified that when his father came home ho took a white powder from a bos mixed it with milk in a large table spoon stirring it with his finger and then swallowed it he also said that he wet his finger put it in the powder and gave each of the children a taste esson G aged four corroborated this statement in every particular other witnesses testified to the habits of the deceased as to the nse of intoxicants and also the other facts stated abaro the jury returned the usual verdict |
