Show man who escaped from jail captured at joplin john S hickman who on 1912 used a knife with fatal effect on dave hutchison and who after being convicted of murder in the second degree in the district court at nephi escaped from the county jall all was recently arrested joplin mo being I 1 rought back to this state on tuesday of this week by sheriff daniel martin the murder of hutchison tool place on main street in eureka in the early hours of the morning ani hickman evaded arrest for several hours by making his escape on loot into utah county he ile was arrest arrested pd however near goshen when the case came to trial at nephi eahl he was found foun d of 0 mur der in the second sec ond degree degree f his ills it torney asked for a stay of execution in order that he h in might go hp ju urmit b m t evi dence on which ne e chop hoam t to 0 z acure a new and t wa a while these proceedings were e un n r way that hickman escaped d I 1 in the county jail at nephi th rh was a in the fall of 1912 and not notwithstanding at ith ithal standing the tact fact that the officers made a streu ous effort to locate him he succeed ed in getting away officers at joplin wired to sheriff martin last week stating that thre was a man in that city whom they thought to be hickman the sheriff here gave them additional informs tion and as us a result hickman was ar rested sheriff martin lost no time in go ing to the missouri city after ME man and while he arranged with governor bamberger for requisition i papers they were not needed as hickman was willing to accompany the sheriff back to utah making no fight light against extradition three licurs after mr martin arrived at i he was on his way back with fie the prisoner who was lodged in tl state penitentiary at salt lake it if hickman is sentenced for sec ond degree murder he will get any where from ten years to life im it is barely possible that he will make another fight lor for his freedom as he has ted some property since he made his e es cape five years ago his relatives who live in picher oklahoma are al so fairly well fixed and it was through their effort that he was able to make a hard fight for his freedom when his case came up for trial jn n the district court in 1912 |
