A Fawson of Grantsville county returned last week from a mission to the northern states for which section he left home March 8 8 1896 1890 His labors were confined principally prin to Omaha Nebraska where r a a good work is being accomplished Elder Fawson enjoyed good health and returns home in excellent spirits In his discourse at the tabernacle Sunday afternoon June 19 Joseph F F. Smith took occasion to set himself squarely against attending pleasure resorts resorts on Sunday and declared that he condemned the practice of going on Sunday to Saltair o in which he and others of the church are financially interested interested interested in in- just as much as any other re re- re- re sort The quarterly conference of Sevier Seyler stake of Zion was was' held in the opera house in Richfield Saturday and Sunday Sunday Sun Sun- day May 21 and 22 1893 1898 There were vera present of the quorum of Apostles Francis M. W Noble of C Cache che county returned recently from the southern states mission field for which section he left home November 9 1895 Elder Noble labored first in Indian Territory and then in Kansas in which parts he reports the work of the Lord progressing nicely His lib h health alth was good while away and ho he greatly enjoyed his labors in the min min- ministry At the last conference held in Boston the attendance was not as large as it U should have been but it it wasa was a a very instructive one The members were were instructed by the president Elder A. A P. P Kesler Keeler to go out on the streets which they did and held four open air meetings in one evening so no doubt doub there v were ere many more that heard tho the sound of the gospel than would if the hall where we held conference had been crowded A Denver paper speaking of the work of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter Saints has the tho following The Mormon elders have been holding a series of well well-at tended meetings at Denver embracing two Sundays the 1st and and then baptised converts in the lake They expect to bold hold meetings in Como Pomona Pomona Pomona Po Po- Po- Po mona and Cisco and later in where several persons are to be baptised bap bap- Used tiled by them During their stay of two weeks in this community they have held meetings nearly every night we believe both preaching at each meeting l Elder lder David R. R Gill Gill formerly of the J Fifteenth ward but nov nO of the ty fourth ward Salt Lake City returned return return- ed ad Monday from the Eastern States J mission field for which section he left his home April 18 1890 1696 Elder Gill N presided over the Pennsylvania confer confer- conference j ence once during durina his entire absence and notes a decided change for the better a 1 during the last few v months On entering entering entering en en- the field says he the Elders Eldera encountered considerable opposition but gradually the way has been opened open open- 1 od ed up for the promulgation of tho the Gospel and now V the missionaries have many friends and hope to organize branches there before a great while The seed has been sown for fora a good harvest harvest har har- j vest veat and tho prospects for numerous J baptisms in the near future are indeed bright The conference is in good condition and on May 28 and 29 enjoyable enjoy enjoy- 1 able meetings were held at Scranton Elder Joseph Wallace of Ogden has succeeded Elder Gill as president and a sixteen energetic missionaries are visiting visiting vis vis- vis f- f fiting tho the different counties r rand and otherwise vise making themselves and their message known to the people X Elders acquainted with the Welsh and ana Dutch languages says saya Brother Gill would do good work in Pennsylvania as aa there are arc many honest people throughout the tho state who speak almost al most entirely in their mother tongue The Tho health of the missionaries good is-good and they feel that tho the words of the Prophets have been boon fulfilled In their heir behalf |
