The code name for the program was Safe & Sober. The Highway Patrol participated in the program and focused on impaired drivers and unrestrained occupants. The results were overwhelming, and for that reason the Highway Patrol has declared 1995 as the Safe & Sober Year! We have expanded the program to include prevention through education. One of our goals is to contact each drivers education class in the state and teach the expectant drivers some things that they dont learn in the classroom. The Safe & Sober program in the drivers education class is a week-lon- g program, with the teacher teaching the first four days and a trooper teaching the fifth day. We hope to further the education and reach the adults through such things as safety talks and articles in the news- that law to you. Hopefully, through a combined effort, we can increase the safety on our highways. If anyone has a particular concern or violation which they would like us to focus on, then please contact the UHP in this area with your suggestion. Until next month, BUCKLE UP and BE CAREFUL.
