Show springville Spring ville and the liquor traffic on the evening of the ath dinst at the instance of many friends of the temperance cause a large number of highly respectable and intelligent citizens as at the city hafl in springville Spring ville to consider reformatory measures with re kard to the liquor traffic on motion of llcy mr smith mr thomas child was called to the chair and on motion of j james E hall mr J M pierce was chosen secretary of the meeting alic following speakers viz C DEvans Esq dr Mci ece johns boyer esq rev mr lee james E hall esq and rev mr smith spoke on the question illustrating in a forcible and interesting manner the terrible of intemperance menially morally physically and financially the speakers were listened to with marked interest and attention throughout after which the following was adopted by unanimous vote since statistics carefully gathered for twenty five years show beyond all doubt that te baloon business is the chief source of all the disorder lawlessness immorality pauperism and crime in every community where it is carried oti and since open saloons inevitably throw around our boys and young men the worst temptations to every kind of evil therefore tact in order to protect our city and our families we the citizens of springville Spring ville in mass meeting assembled do hereby declare it as our earnest conviction that the only safe course for this city to pursue is to prohibit the saloon business altogether second that we hereby earnestly call upon the city marshal to proceed at once to close up every place in aliis city where liquor is unlawfully sold whether it be saloon drug store or more bidden resort and we hereby pledge ourselves to stand by him until he shall close up tho last rum bole in the meeting appointed CP evans and rev mr lee a committee to ay resolutions before the city council j ss sec |
