MARCH Financing Completed For Atoert Processing P eiirt MRS. WARREN L. GOATES Death Calls Mrs. Warren Goates, Funsral Today Mrs. Warren L. Goates (Marie Phillips) 61, former school teacher and long time church worker, died Sunday, Feb. 28, in a Salt Lake City hospital, following failing health and surgery. Mrs. Goates was born in Lehi, Dec. 24, 1909, a daughter of George C. and Alice L. Per-noPhillips. She graduated from the Lehi High School in 1928, later attending Brigham Young University. ux FORMER MISS LEHI She was a former "Miss Lehi' reigning over the "Sugar Beet Days" celebration of 1930. She taught school in Orem, Lehi and in Fairfield, Utah. Her father died when she was eleven years old, leaving her mother with the responsibility of rearing a large family, as well as finding a means of support. Mrs. Goates learned the art of tailoring from her mother, who was a fine seamstress and who had taken tailoring to help maintain the children. She was married to Warren L. Goates of Lehi, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1932. Active in Church, work, she served in the Sunday School, Re- lief Society, and Mutual Improve- ment Association organizations in leadership and teaching positions. Musically inclined, she has sung in and directed ward choirs for many years. Also, she has sung solos and participated with singing groups throughout her life. Mrs. Goates is survived by her husband of Lehi; sons, LaMarP., Loveland, Colo, and Kenneth J., Granger; daughters, Mrs. Bruce C. (Alice A.) Watts, Lehi and Eleen M., Lehi; Brothers and sisters, Mrs. Martha Hunter, Am. Fork; Mrs. Eliza Andrus, Holladay; Mrs. Jane Chaffin, Payson; Mrs. Ida Christensen, Sandy; Mrs. Wesley (Alice) Hard ing, Vineyard; Mrs. Evans (Lil-ian- e) Anderson, Lehi; Mrs. David (Arlene) Adamson, Lehi; Louis E. Phillips, Parma, Idaho; Jean L. Phillips, Lehi; Mrs. Howard (Ada) Robinson, Lehi; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at LOO p.m. on Thursday, today, March 4, at the Wing Mortuary Chapel, with Bishop Leland Price of the Lehi Tenth Ward in charge. Friends may call at the place of funeral prior to the services. Burial will be in the Lehi City Cemetery. Funding, including a $101,500 loan from the Small Business Administration, has been completed for a $203,000 expansion of a meat cutting business in Lehi, Utah, Senator Wallace F. Bennett, reported recently. The SBA loan went to the Lehi Industrial FundEnterprise, Lehi, which win use the money to assist the Virgo Corp, of Lehi. The corporation does wholesale meat cutting. Clark conducting the meeting, members of the Lehi City Council turned their attention toward plans for the annual Lehi Roundup celebration and also to the "Miss Lehi Pageant.' It was agreed to make a change In zoning to allow the construction of a mobile home village. A deadline was set for preparation of a "master plan" for the city, to be submitted by the engineers responsible for that service. Council members in attendance included Jo Ann Brown, Dr. Kent B. Davis, La Vere Downs, Reed Sunderland and KennethWhlm-pe- y. Also present were Recorder Ned Wilson and City Attorney Harvard R. Hinton. Mayor Clark read a letter requesting an exclusive franchise for a CATV system in Lehi. Council members expressed the opinion that the cable system for television is a coming thing, but that they could not at present consider an exclusive franchise. It was agreed to request further investigation concerning this proposal. A letter from the UtahTechni- cal CoUege in Provo, concerning forest areas and their use, was read. Councilwoman Brown that this should have been com- pleted by now. It was voted to send a letter to the engineers, setting April 5, 1971, asthe deadline for completion of the master plan. It is to be submitted to the City Council at the meeting on that date. re ported on the meeting which she attended concerning this. Cedar Valley Bampt ENGINEERING REPORTS Council members discussed various billings from Engi neering Associates for work done for the city. It was felt that several of the bills were some what out of line in view of the work accomplished and also there were some written reports that should be submitted along with the billings on certain projects The master drainage plan was discussed. It was the general feeling of the council members Slated Tonight Everyone is invited to bring the entire family for a good time at Cedar Fort, Thursday (tonight). It will be a"smorgaasbord sur prise" banquet, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with a program to follow at 7:30. Bring the entire family for $10.00, or single plates will be $2.00. The banquet will be held in the Cedar Valley Ward church in the cultural hall, at Cedar Fort. Glade Berry will entertain with his guitar and will lead in com munity singing. The benefit affair, with funds assigned toward the ward budget is under the direction of the Sun day School, with Glade Peterson as superintendents. Clarence Peterson and Vern Car son are the assistants. Timp Range Ride Set Saturday, Sunday According to Art Henderson, local Fish and Game Conserva tion Officer, the annual Spring range ride on Mt. Timpanogos is set for Saturday and Sunday, March 13 and 14. The purpose of this ride is to study range conditions, browse and plant utilization by big game animals on the winter range areas. "We also watch for big game loss by starvation, if any,' Mr Henderson explained, "along the Timpanogos front.' Also, the information gathered on this ride is used to help formulate plans for the recom mendations for the coming Fall hunt. Everyone is invited to partici pate in these rides. On Saturday, March 13, the meeting place will be at Grove Creek, east of Pleasant Grove. For additional information, riders are invited to contact 1, Art Henderson, Ph. PI. HONOR STUDENTS Honor Sluilsnts The five honor students who will represent the Lehi High graduating class of 1971 on the commencement program have been named, it was reported by Dale H. Price, principal. They are Perry Higginson, Donalee Jones, Rebecca Merrell, Sherry Olson and Anita Shelley. These students are chosen on the basis of their academic standing, Mr. Price said. Each will deliver an address on the commencement exercises, set for the end of May. Perry is 18 years old and the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Dean Higginson. He is active in student activities at the Lehi High School. He Is serving as president of the National Honor Society. He is also playing a leading roll in the schools forthcoming production of "Oliver.' He is a member of the pep band, where he plays drums. He has been a member of the Stage Band and is serving as Lehi District's Representative for the Seminary. He also participated in Seminary Bowl. He holds the office of Priest in the Lehl Tenth Ward and has earned two Individ ual Awards. He served as a mem ber of his Teacher's Quorum Presidency. He also plays the guitar. His future plans are still undecided, but toil he plans to attend either or Ricks College. Rebecca (Becky) Merrell, 18, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Sterling Merrell. She is ac tive in student affairs and is a National Merit Finalist. She is a member of the Honor Society, is a Sterling Scholar nominee and has participated in drama and musical productions. She has been a member of the GAA and in Georgia was a amember of the Science Club. She is a member of the concert band, where she plays the flute. She also sings and is a member of the chorus. She is a prospective fourth year Seminary graduate. She has earned five Individual Awards. In Ninth Grade she was the best girl in Social Students and won Honorable Mention in Biology. She participated in Seminary Bowl. She is a member of the KaLehldoscope staff at the school. Future plans Include atBYU tending BYU. Anita is also 18 years old and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Shelley. She is a member of the Honor Society and SOAR. She has been a Thespian, a member of the Biology Club, GAA, Concert Band and FHA. She is also a prospective fourth year Seminary graduate and has earned five Individual Awards. Future plans Include attending Utah State University where she plans to major In social work or sociology. Donalee, 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Jones. Councilman Davis was asked to take the responsibility of the Public Safe ty Department. Councilman Downs will have the direction of the Power Department and also other assignments formerly handled by J. B. Cooper, now serving as a State Legislator. This would be on his property on East Coates Avenue. Concerning traffic problems at Center and Main Streets, it was pointed out that the State had made surveys at this point and the report was that the volume of recommended that the change be made. This would include the property and area from 200 West to Dry Creek, approximately 100 West between the Freeway and Highway 91. It was voted to ac cept the recommendation of the Commission and to change the zoning ordinance subject to public hearing and other legal re quirements. This public hearing was set for Monday, March 29, at 12:00 noon in the City Council room. Lehl Chief of Police Berl Peterson brought up the need for an ordinance to cover the contributing to delinquency. Attorney Hinton will cooperate in planning such an ordinance. Councilman. Whlmpey reported that he needed to hire two men, one for the Street Department and one for the garbage department. John Daly will be hired on a temporary basis.
