DECEMBER St. 1844 Plan Referendum On Conservation It was decelded that a referen dum be called by the state com mittee of the Federal Soil Conservation Con-servation Service, when 80 or 90) northern Utah county farmers met Wednesday, to discuss the organization or-ganization of a soil conservation district which will include Cedar valley, Lehi, American Fork, and Pleasant Grove, according to J. Earl Smith, Lehi, correspondent for the S. C. S. committee. Ray Walker, Salt Lake City, member of .the state committee. was in charge of the meetings, one at Lehi in the afternoon and one in American Fork Wednesday evening, at which farmers and S. C. S. representatives discussed the need of organizing in that district. The purpose of such an arrangement ar-rangement would be the cooperation cooper-ation in assisting soil fertility, erosion control, and land leveling and drainage with equipment available through the state and federal service for rent to farmers farm-ers of the organization, Mr. Smith explained. Five district supervisors, all of whom must be landowners two appointed by the state committee and three elected by farmers of the district, will head the local district if the vote, to be called for in the near future, is in favor of organization, he said. The district conservation service serv-ice will assist farmers with engineering en-gineering and soil analysis problems, prob-lems, if the organization is found to be favorable to the majority of farmers who will vote.
