Attorneys Swncker, Stevenson nnd Osborno took turns In their denunciation denuncia-tion of the methods used by the Now Haven, ns they viewed them In suppressing sup-pressing and buying In Its compctl tors. Mr. Osborno pictured tho Into J. P. Morgan as tno man who conceived con-ceived the alleged plan to dominate tho traffic of Now England. Ho compared com-pared the Now Haven to tho Northern North-ern Securities company, tho holding company for tho Northern Pacific nnd Great Northern railways which was dissolved by a decree of tho su premo court of the United Stntes. No ono except Morgan and William Rockefeller knew more nbout tho purposes of the New Haven than Chnrlcs S. Mellon, declnred Mr. Osborno, Os-borno, and Mellen had written a letter let-ter which showed that tho maintenance mainten-ance of a monopoly at any cost was tho p'atform of tho Now Haven. This was tho letter that Mellen, while president of tho Northern Pacific sent to John M. Hall, president of tho New Haven In 1002 nnd In which he said: "Tho New Haven has always been prone to underestimate the va'uo of a competitor.
