September 30. 1382 - Page 3 LeBaron to seek Utah House seat Don LeBaron is the Republican candidate for House District 58, representing Alpine, Highland, Cedar Hills and parts of American Fork, Lehi and Pleasant Grove. As recent mayor of Highland City, Don managed the organization of one of Utah's newest communities. He says he understands the unique problems faced by citizens of small cities. LeBaron strongly supports constitutional government and believes that elected officials should seek candid direction from those they represent. LeBaron said he is deeply concerned about the present condition of Utah's economy. He said his efforts will include revitalization of steel and copper industries, acceleration of construction and the centering of new, industries in the state. Other goals toward a strong economy include developing Utah's immense natural resources in energy and recreation. A recovering economy would enable the state to shoulder its financial responsibilities in education and other key areas, he said. LeBaron said, "Of our state's resources, our children are our most valuable. Maintaining a high standard of education while keeping the cost of education at tolerable levels is one of our foremost challenges." y - rct-- x' . Church roof UL . . . ; . GOING, GOING . . . GONE . . is the old Lehi Fourth Ward. Construction workers continued the dismantling of the old building this week. Once the rubble is removed, construction will get in on a new church building. One of the nice things about living in Utah is the deadlines we live with because of the change of seasons. In the spring we do spring housecleaning, and in the fall we put up fruit. In the summer we gather wood to last through the winter and in the winter we begin preparations for the holidays.. I wonder what we'd do if the weather was 70 degree - Tahiti-like- , all year long. We live a life of variety and deadchange, and our lines bring excitement and a sense of purpose. Just weeks ago the weather was balmy and beautiful. Reunions were still taking place in the park and folks were still picnicking in the canyons. I walked past the park one Saturday afternoon just two weeks ago and there was the children of Robert and Delia Fox enjoying a There were family cousins, sisters, brothers, and grandkids renewing acquaintances and enjoying one another's company. Further along there was Frances Trinnaman with members of the Gilbert Family having a dinner in the park. Golly, all those reunions are d d r. fun. I get to see people I haven't seen for a long time. I hadn't seen Elaine or Jay since Ring was a pup and they were there to unite with loved ones. You don't have to have reunions you just do - because it's summer. But, here it is just two weeks later and what have we got? Three feet of snow on Timp, ponds where they've never been before, and basements full of water. . Bill is visiting for a few days and we went for a walk last night. The pleasant smell of wood burning in heralded stoves and fireplaces e autumn as did the spicy fragrance coming from one house. As we walked past Adamsons and Wilsons the fruits of Blaine's and Bert's summer labor are stacked roof high, cut into logs just the right size for the fireplace, a nice supply of winter wood. That takes discipline; to gather wood for winter when its 95 degrees outside. A deadline many folks in Utah live with. Another thing we do that we don't have to do and that we probably wouldn't do if it wasn't because of the spring breezes is plant seeds into the earth in April and May and expect them to produce for us by fall. What anticipation though, when we -- chili-sauc- d 1 watch for those seeds to sprout and we harvest the spoils of the tiny little seeds we don't have to plant. We automatically begin planning for Christmas when we see the first dusting of frost on the ground. We get restless. There's Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas ahead. It doesn't take money to plan and most folks around here are ready when the new season arrives. that when the September rains come, we are provided with insurance that we'll have yet another harvest. Constancy among change, and our go I've got to bottle some apple sauce, pickles, relish, make fruit cake, put a quilt on . . . Hey, we don't have to do any of this stuff - do we? hand-in-han- Mothers start planning wardrobes for their children way back in July and dads and brothers begin checking out their hunting gear around the 24th of July when the night breezes blow a little HOME time for us to provide this service.
