Show iSPO Number One Pioneers host Union By TRACY WILSON "We're number one," can again be heard from the locker room and halls of Lehi High School. The Pioneer football program is ranked first in both Salt Lake City newspapers which publish coaches' picks from throughout the state. After last Friday night's 4 loss by Snow Canyon to Uintah, the Lehi eleven, which had been ranked first in the Tribune but second in the Deseret News, was propelled into the top spot. They are now followed in the ratings by Delta, Uintah, Snow Canyon and Morgan in the "News. Lehi, Uintah and Morgan with Delta are all 20-1- 3-- 2-- 0. 0 Curiously, North Sanpete is 0 in Delta's region, but is unranked. Snow Canyon is 1 along with Cedar City and Dixie, in their region, and Wasatch and Ben Lomond in their respective regions. None of the 3A schools has played any league competition. Union, 2 after losing to Ben Lomond 41-2- 0 last Friday, is scheduled to be Lehi's next 3-- 2-- 1-- opponent, this Friday at Pioneer Field. The Cougars' lone win came over Carbon. Lehi has victories over Payson, Granite and Ogden with an offensive average over 35. Three Lehi players were recognized by the Deseret News for outstanding performances Sophs now following last week's romp over Ogden. Rett Sage was singled out for 15 tackles in the game with the Tigers. Braden Cooper threw for 219 yards on 17 of 26 aerials, three for touchdowns with one interception. Trevor Varney was also touted for his three scoring runs and his 124 yards on IS carries. Union scored first against the Scots, but then Ben Lomond reeled off five straight TDs to hold a 3 edge going into the final period. Game time is 7 p.m. for this Region 10 matchup. The Pioneers' third home stand in a row is scheduled for Hawks Sept. 26 against the of North Sanpete. 1-- 1 schedule. There are three teams coached by these capable mentors. Next Tuesday they travel to Uintah for a 4 p.m. sophomore, 5:15 junior varsity, and 6:30 varsity matchup. Thursday Sept. 18 and Tuesday Sept. 23, the girls are at home against Park City and Wasatch. Sept. 25 they head back to the Basin against Union and then have a home contest against Uintah Oct. 2 before the Oct. 4 Richfield Tournament. Wednesday's match against Park City was postponed due to lightning and rain with the Miners ahead; it may be continued later.
