Show Pleasant Grove All Stars Win State Championship A special thanks to head coach Mat Pentelute and assistant assis-tant coaches Gary Hill, Brian Farris, and Jeremy Herrera. H ; The Pleasant Grove 10U All Star baseball team concluded con-cluded their quest for the 2011 Wasatch Baseball Association As-sociation State Championship Champion-ship with a dominating win over the number one seeded American Fork All Star team. The PG All Stars played seven games and went unde-' unde-' feated throughout the three day tournament. Led by MVP performances from Jackson Hill, Conner Robley and Carter Pentelute, it all began on Saturday, June 23 with a decisive 12 - 2 win over a solid Herriman All Star team. All throughout the tournament, tour-nament, Pleasant Grove demonstrated their ability to crush the ball and move around the bases. Power hitters hit-ters like Kyle Gassman, Sky-ler Sky-ler Herrera, Harrison (Big Papi) Grant and Ethan Mac-Gillvray Mac-Gillvray were in true form Pentelute at short stop and Conner Robley playing second sec-ond base, the First baseman Zach Veenker recorded out after out. The outfield was led masterfully by the play of Dallin Farris, Jackson Hill, Ethan MacGillvray, Micah Merrell, Kaden Blackhurst, Bridger Carson, Teagon Wis-combe Wis-combe and Conner Sturgis. Each time a ball was put in play, these outfielders were quick, decisive and instinctively instinc-tively knew what to do to minimize damage. Remarkable Remark-able efforts behind the plate were turned in by catchers Kyle Gassman and Micah Merrell. As Teagon Wiscombe threw the final pitch of the tournament and Dallin Farris Far-ris made a superb catch in deep left field to seal the final fi-nal out for Pleasant Grove, the 10U AAA Division State Back row, I to r: Jeremy Herrera, Gary Hill, Brian Farris and Mat Pentelute. Outstanding pitching, demonstrated from ten different Pleasant Grove pitchers - Teagon Wiscombe, Kaden Blackhurst, Conner Con-ner Sturgis, Bridger Carson, Harrison Grant, Conner Robley, Ro-bley, Carter Pentelute, Jackson Jack-son Hill, Kyle Gassman and Ethan MacGillvray, allowed only seven runs to score in the first four games! With the adrenalin pumping, pump-ing, the defensive play of Pleasant Grove in each game was spectacular. With Skyler Herrera at third base, Carter Championship was theirs. The players rushed the field for a celebratory pile-up near the pitcher's mound. Parents, grandparents and fans gathered gath-ered at home plate to congratulate con-gratulate each of these young ball players who represented the pride of Pleasant Grove baseball. For these boys and their misty eyed parents it had been seven games over three long days which ended in exhausted ex-hausted euphoria. The All Star team had done what it set out to do - bring Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove the 2011 Wasatch Baseball Association State Championship. Well done boys! |
