Show t Joath of an Old Resident i John TayKns who > e denise occurred I yesterday about half an hour before I noon was wen and orablek own in SaltLake eres and particularly in the I Ninth Ward where he has continuously resided since 1861 He was taken ill on I Sunday afternoon last and was con tjned to his bed from wlilcl he nevermore never-mOre arose alive Pneumonia in an I aggia ated form was the disease which took from the companionship of friends and the loved ones of home a respected citizen Deceased was born on the 7th of September Sep-tember 1823 at Knntsford Cheshire England he was baptized into the Mormon Mor-mon Church in 1848 and zealously pb served the principles taught throughout his life being soon after his connrma tioa as a member appointed to preside over a numerous branch in his native countrv Later he left the mother land and ha1ted in Iowa City where he was again charged with 1iie presidency of a branch i I860 crossing the plains he I was chosen captain ot a company of I emigrants He and his family arrived in this city in September 1860 and after residing a short time in the Fourteenth I I Ward moved tothe Ninth beteas I I we have said hejias resided since For a number of years he superintended the Sunday school of that ward which I under his careV wapa thriving and prospero pros-pero s institution t j but of late he took but little interest in anything outside of his family and in a measure secluded himself He was conscientioushonest citizen a kind indulgent father and beloved husbandf and his sudden taking tak-ing off will be a source of great grief to his family and those intimately f ac uaintetl witluhim |
